Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada is currently hiring a Junior–Intermediate Payroll Administrator to join our Payroll team. We are looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, has a strong sense of initiative, and demonstrates effective communication with both stakeholders and colleagues. This position follows a hybrid working model, combining home and on-site work.
The role involves supporting day-to-day payroll activities, including data entry, timecard reconciliation, employee inquiries, reporting, and payroll processing. The successful candidate will have an interest in developing their payroll expertise and the ability to learn new systems and processes.
In this role, you will support the production of biweekly payroll using PeopleSoft, Oracle Time & Labour and ADP Workforce Now with responsibilities that may include:
Responsibilities
- Support payroll processing for union and non-union employees, both hourly and salaried, including labour edits and bi-weekly payroll processing
- Assist in employee changes, including new hires, terminations, pay, banking information, tax credits, vacation pay, severance, Records of Employment, incentives, bonuses, and other employee record updates
- Assist in resolving payroll processing issues and discrepancies
- Collect, enter, and validate payroll data in spreadsheets and payroll systems, and support the administration of Oracle Time & Labour and ADP Workforce Now
- Prepare and distribute routine and ad-hoc reports, including developing custom reports and database queries as required
- Assist with employee payroll inquiries
- Support the preparation of journal vouchers for payroll, labour, and accruals, as well as reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts
- Support payroll year-end activities, including T4/T4A processing, government forms, and other required filings
- Support payments and returns to internal and external organizations, including WSIB and family support
- Maintain payroll records and documentation for audit purposes and develop knowledge of applicable payroll legislation and requirements, including the Income Tax Act and Employment Standards Act
Qualifications
What You Need to Have to Succeed
- Degree or diploma in Commerce, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or an undergraduate degree in another discipline combined with a post-graduate certificate in Payroll
- Experience in payroll, accounting, finance, administration, or a related field is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with financial and employee information
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrate ability to learn new systems, processes, and legislation quickly
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience with payroll processing or payroll systems
- Experience with Oracle Time & Labour, ADP Workforce Now or PeopleSoft
- Experience with T4 processing, government forms, or other payroll-related compliance activities
- Experience supporting union and/or non-union payroll
- Experience with payroll-related accounting, reconciliations, or journal entries
- Experience using AI or other emerging technologies to improve efficiency, analyze information, or support business processes
- Previous experience working in a complex or high-volume administrative environment
- Payroll certification, progress toward certification, or an interest in pursuing professional payroll education or certification through the National Payroll Institute
How We Work
- Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
Additional Information
The hiring range for this position is $61,500 to 75,000.
