Original job description

General Fusion (NASDAQ: GFUZ) is a fusion technology development company. The Company aims to deliver economical, carbon-free fusion energy through its practical Magnetized Target Fusion (“MTF”) technology, an engineering-driven approach to fusion energy. General Fusion's commercialization program is anchored by LM26, the world's first commercially relevant-scale MTF demonstration machine. The Company is working toward the commercial deployment of fusion power in the mid-2030s. General Fusion is the first publicly listed fusion company and TIME’s No. 1 GreenTech Company of 2026. For more information, visit generalfusion.com or follow General Fusion on LinkedIn, YouTube, and X.

Position Overview:

As a member of the Physics team, the Computational Analyst will run and contribute to the development of models that simulate magnetized plasma dynamics. The role focuses on understanding the behaviour of magnetized plasma targets within General Fusion’s envisioned Magnetized Target Fusion power plant.

Using existing codes and simulation tools, you will analyze model outputs, assess their consistency with expected plasma behaviour and power plant performance, and communicate findings through presentations and written reports to advance the team’s understanding.

The ideal candidate brings curiosity and a methodical approach to problem-solving, investigating results in depth and developing and testing hypotheses to address technical challenges. You will proactively communicate progress, incorporate feedback, and take ownership of the quality of your analyses including model fidelity, accuracy, suitability for the intended purpose, and clear communication of findings.

Responsibilities:

  • Simulating and optimizing magnetized plasma compression configurations across large parameter spaces with existing codes
  • Working with the science team to assist in developing and the testing of new models of plasma and machine behavior
  • Taking ownership of the modeling results, ensuring that they meet the needs, in both fidelity and confidence, of the science and engineering teams
  • Reconciling model results with experimental physical results and using them to improve the fidelity of the models
  • Communicate your results to both technical and non-technical audiences via in-person presentations and written reports
  • Other tasks/duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • M.Sc. or equivalent degree in engineering, physics, computer science or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in computational modeling, simulation, or scientific research.
  • Strong understanding of numerical methods, computational modeling, and simulation techniques
  • Experience simulating dynamic or static electromagnetic systems with diverse boundary conditions.
  • Proven fluency in Python and modern scientific computing
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience running code on parallel computing systems in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Knowledge of plasma physics, particularly magnetized plasma theory and research.
  • Experience modeling and simulating magnetized plasma behavior.
  • Experience conducting computational research in plasma physics.
  • Familiarity with magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modeling codes, such as VAC or NIMROD.
  • Experience developing time-dependent computational models, such as electromagnetic simulation codes.

The typical hiring range for this position is 100,000 CAD – 120,000 CAD. General Fusion considers several factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills, and experience, proficiency, job location, and internal equity.

The work involved in this project combines a wide range of skill sets, and each team member will need to become familiar with the full scope of the experiment and understand how their work relates to the whole. General Fusion seeks individuals who are self-motivated, have good communication skills and are comfortable with creative problem solving independently and within a group.

What We Offer:

  • Flexible hours
  • Four weeks’ vacation
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • RRSP contribution
  • Support for professional development
  • Great company culture – social events, food trucks, bike rides, Sun Run, etc.

Applications:

We thank all applicants for their interest, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

General Fusion is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, or age.
