About Us:

General Fusion (NASDAQ: GFUZ) is a fusion technology development company. The Company aims to deliver economical, carbon-free fusion energy through its practical Magnetized Target Fusion (“MTF”) technology, an engineering-driven approach to fusion energy. General Fusion's commercialization program is anchored by LM26, the world's first commercially relevant-scale MTF demonstration machine. The Company is working toward the commercial deployment of fusion power in the mid-2030s. General Fusion is the first publicly listed fusion company and TIME’s No. 1 GreenTech Company of 2026. For more information, visit generalfusion.com or follow General Fusion on LinkedIn, YouTube, and X.

Position Overview:

The Systems Modeling Engineer works with a team of subject matter experts to build systems and process models, of a fusion power plant, that is used to make system trade-offs, define sub-system requirements, and validate plant architectures. The successful applicant will be expected to hit the ground running and thrive in a fast-paced and constantly evolving work environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Systems Modeling Engineer looking for challenging work that has a direct impact on General Fusion’s ability to develop practical fusion energy solutions.

Responsibilities:

Work with teams that span the organization to understand and balance stakeholder needs, risk, and performance
Develop models of fusion power plant systems, sub-systems and components to validate system architectures, drive system requirements, and identify and evaluate mitigation options
Building and using new system models from first principles, and updating and managing existing models
Prepare high-quality documentation and present technical results to stakeholders at varying levels of technical depth across all parts of the business
Contribute to team development by sharing expertise, participating actively in design reviews, and helping refine and implement effective engineering processes.
Other tasks / duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum 7 years experience designing integrated electro-mechanical systems.
Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering, engineering physics, or related discipline
Demonstrated ability to see the big picture; know when to get involved in the details
Strong understanding of engineering and physics first principles, particularly in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
Demonstrated experience working with design teams that have delivered effective solutions to technically challenging problems.
Comfortable working to aggressive deadlines in a rapidly changing work environment where the path to feasible solutions is not always clear.
Demonstrated use of configuration management for managing and communicating evolving designs
Experience building process models with Python or other process modeling tools in combination with the ability to quickly pick up new tools

Preferred:

Registration with EGBC as a Professional Engineer, or on track to complete registration,
Experience applying AI to accelerate systems modeling and requirements development
Demonstrated ability to use engineering judgment in validating AI generated outputs
Experience using numerical methods in systems modelling
Demonstrated ability to develop, flow down, and manage requirements across complex multi-disciplinary systems
Experience with model-based systems engineering
Experience with nuclear engineering or physics principles

The typical hiring range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000. General Fusion considers many factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills and experience, proficiency, job location and internal equity.
