Description

Your Role

As Technical Director in Gensler’s Vancouver office, you will guide the technical delivery of design, helping project teams translate design intent into coordinated, constructible solutions. Working with studio and project leaders, you will champion Gensler’s design culture, specifications, documentation, construction administration, contracts and project management standards while developing the next generation of technical leaders.

What You Will Do

  • Guide, mentor and develop studio members, partnering with project leaders to align staffing and technical expertise with each project’s scope, complexity and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Serve as the studio’s lead technical resource, maintaining a working knowledge of all studio projects and tailoring your involvement to each team’s needs. Help teams coordinate drawings, specifications and consultant information while preserving design intent.
  • Oversee the studio’s Quality Assurance Review Process from project inception through construction documentation and construction administration. Ensure QA Review Checklists reflect project-specific technical and jurisdictional requirements, are introduced at project outset and are used throughout delivery. Schedule reviews around key project milestones, confirm checklists are completed for review by the Architect of Record, and document review status and resolution of technical issues across studio projects.
  • Develop the next generation of technical leaders through hands-on mentorship, project reviews and knowledge sharing focused on detailing, specifications, consultant coordination and construction administration.

Your Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in architecture or design preferred, supported by a rigorous design education.
  • 15+ years of architectural experience, including technical leadership and project delivery.
  • Registered architect with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (Architect AIBC).
  • Strong design sensibility and the ability to enhance design through technical innovation, thoughtful detailing and constructible solutions.
  • Strong management skills and experience integrating quality assurance reviews into project schedules, team workflows and technical delivery milestones.
  • Advanced technical expertise in preparing and reviewing coordinated construction drawings and specifications.
  • Experience leading full-cycle construction administration on multiple projects, including field reviews, submittal and RFI reviews, changes and project closeout.
  • Expert knowledge of industry standards, construction documentation resources and contract administration practices.
  • A committed educator and mentor who invests time in developing technical staff and building a collaborative culture of technical excellence.
  • Experience with technical delivery across both architecture and interiors projects is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable building codes, including the BC Building Code and Vancouver Building By-law is a plus.
  • Familiarity with project delivery in British Columbia and Alberta is a plus.
