TITLE: Co-ordinator, Collections & Technical Services

DIVISION: Library, Learning & Assessment Centres

SALARY: Payband J, starting rate $44.48 per hour

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

HOURS PER WEEK: 35

LOCATION: 200 King St.E.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Library Services, the Coordinator, Collection and Technical Services provides guidance to the cataloguing and acquisitions teams including new methodologies. They lead the cataloguing and processing of library material, providing original and complex cataloguing, and guidance for resource description in metadata schemas for all formats. They recommend methods to deal with metadata initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Snr. Manager, Library Services in the development of the collections budget for budget estimates, anticipating expected projections or changes.
Create and analyse budget reports for LLC collections, explaining budget increases or unsupplied materials or anticipated expenditure till year end.
Conduct research and analyse and evaluate acquisitions practices to review new practices and products. Make recommendations based on research and job knowledge to advise Manager about the merits, the impact and suggested course of action.
Trains library faculty and staff on library-specific acquisitions and cataloguing systems and applications
Compiles LLC service statistics reports for submission to the college consortium and prepares reports for collection analysis.
Perform original and complex cataloging for materials in all formats, conforming to national and local standards and practices such as MARC, RDA, LCSH, OCLC, LC classification and other standards as catalog and discovery systems develop. Ensure that descriptions and choice of access points promote the discoverability of resources either via browsing or keyword searches.
Coordinate and support the lifecycle of electronic resources for the library, including acquisitions, implementation, renewals, licensing, troubleshooting and assessment of eBooks, demand driven acquisition plans, electronic packages, journals and databases. Serves as the expert for issues related to access.
Provide reference and research assistance to students/faculty and staff from a basic query to a more detailed search.
Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements

Two-year Library Technician diploma from a recognized post-secondary institute or equivalent.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience that includes:
Experience working with library collection budgets and preparing forecasts.
In-depth experience working with varied collection formats and setting up the technical infrastructure needed to support e-Resources.
Experience dealing with library vendors and consortiums.
Advanced knowledge of and experience in applying RDA, LC Subject headings and classification, MARC 21 format for bibliographic records.
Experience cataloguing all formats including film, media and e-resources.
Advanced knowledge of specific library platforms and services such as ALMA/Primo, Springshare products, EzProxy, etc.
Practical experience and advanced knowledge in implementing eServices (eBooks and journals, streamed content) and technical know-how to set up systems (e.g. EDI, Ebsco Net, streaming, PDA, DDA, Rialto, Leganto etc.).
Experience delivering reference services in a hybrid environment (online and in-person) and knowledge of library databases and collections at GBP.

Skills and Attributes

Leadership skills to co-ordinate duties of library technicians and other operations related to acquisitions, cataloguing, e-resources.
Understanding of licensing, acquiring, evaluating and supporting ongoing access to e-Resources.
Organizational and administrative skills to coordinate staff duties, provide guidance and training to library staff.
Knowledge of AODA protocols especially in relation to collections.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong customer/public service focus.
Excellent time management, project management, and creative problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work effectively in teams is innovative and adaptive to change.
Excellent collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
Demonstrated commitment to uphold the polytechnic’s priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenization (EDII).
Able to lift up to 20 kg or 40 lbs (i.e., boxes of books, AV equipment, supplies, tables, etc.).
Able to travel between campuses for meetings or other work-related duties on a weekly basis.
