Compensation: $75,000 – $80,000 per year
About Gestalt
Gestalt Communications is an integrated communications and public affairs firm. We help organizations and leaders navigate complex reputational, political and public environments.
We're growing our executive communications practice and looking for an exceptional writer and strategic thinker who can own a client's executive profile from first idea to finished work.
The Role
You'll help prominent executives build credible, distinctive public profiles through what they say, write and publish, and where they show up. That means speeches and op-eds, earned media, social media, speaking platforms and awards, all tied to a clear strategy for how each executive should be understood.
This role is for someone who can sit with an executive, take rough notes and a half-formed idea, and come back with something that sounds exactly like them, only sharper.
What You'll Do
- Write speeches, keynote remarks, op-eds, briefing notes, talking points and social content in each executive's authentic voice
- Develop executive positioning and thought-leadership strategy: priority audiences, themes, issues and channels
- Find and secure earned media, including interviews, contributed articles, profiles, podcasts and broadcast opportunities, with angles that go beyond corporate announcements
- Build speaking and recognition pipelines: priority conferences, keynote concepts, speaker proposals, bios and award nominations
- Advise executives on their social media presence and manage editorial calendars that connect content to business priorities and current conversations
- Prepare executives for interviews, keynotes, panels, podcasts and town halls
- Monitor media and emerging issues, and provide clear counsel and draft responses when executives are deciding whether and how to engage
- Run day-to-day workflow across several client mandates, presenting work to clients and escalating major strategic matters to the lead partner
- Typically four to seven years in executive communications, corporate communications, public affairs, journalism, speechwriting or a related advisory role
- Exceptional writing and editing, with a portfolio to show for it
- The ability to capture someone else's voice and produce strong work from conversations, rough notes and incomplete inputs
- Sound strategic and reputational judgment, including knowing when something needs senior attention
- Strong research and fact-checking skills, and the ability to turn complex information into a clear narrative
- The organization to manage several clients and deadlines at once
- A practical understanding of Canadian business, public affairs and media
- Discretion with confidential and high-profile matters, and openness to direct feedback and iterative editing
Nice to Have
- Political, government, campaign or policy communications experience
- Speechwriting, journalism, broadcast or executive-office experience
- Deep knowledge of a specific industry or sector
- Relationships with media, podcasts, conference organizers or awards programs
- Issues-management or crisis-communications experience
- French or another language
- Direct access to senior executives, with your work going out under their names
- A real hand in building a growing practice, including its methods, offerings and case studies
- A small team where good work is seen quickly and growth isn't gated by layers
- Competitive compensation and benefits
Apply through this posting with:
- Your resume
- A short note on why this role interests you
- One writing sample, ideally long-form or speech-style. Redacted or anonymized client work is welcome; please identify your contribution to any collaborative piece.
