Job Summary
GFL is seeking an experienced Business Analyst who excels in bridging the gap between an organization's business needs and the technology solutions that address them. You are passionate about solving business problems, improving efficiency, and increasing profitability by analyzing data, assessing processes, defining requirements, and facilitating communication among stakeholders.
You will take ownership of the business analysis function for key projects, influencing stakeholders and driving efforts focused on achieving desired business results. You serve as a Subject Matter Expert of Scope for projects, ensuring successful planning, execution and delivery.
Job Responsibilities
Strategy and Analysis
- Problem Definition & Scope: A BA defines the core problem or opportunity for improvement within the business, which often involves understanding the overall organization's goals and needs.
- Process Modeling & Improvement: They analyze current business processes (the "as-is" state) to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies. They then design and recommend future processes (the "to-be" state) and systems to optimize efficiency and reduce costs. This includes business process mapping and modeling.
- Data Analysis: They collect and examine data from various sources to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions and validate proposed solutions.
- Business Case Development: They may contribute to the creation of a Business Case, which outlines the problems, opportunities, and solutions, and includes metrics like Return on Investment (ROI) and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Elicitation & Requirements Management
- Elicit and manage business and technical requirements through methods like stakeholder interviewing, performing business analysis, reviewing surveys, making site visits, and conducting effective facilitation sessions with multiple business and vendor partners.
- Lead and execute Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions to elicit both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Document requirements into a Business Requirements Document (BRD) with traceability through development and testing.
- Translate Requirements into a Software/System Requirements Specification (SRS) describing the system's requirements in detail for the development team.
- Translate high-level requirements into user stories for consumption by the development team, ensuring new stories and features are added iteratively to the product development cycle.
- Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM): Linking requirements to their source, design components, and test cases, ensuring coverage and facilitating impact analysis for changes.
- Recommend and accept trade-offs during project design and implementation, ensuring that the consequences of decisions are well understood by all stakeholders.
Process & Data Analysis
- BPM: Business Process management:
- Analyzing current processes to identify issues and improvement opportunities.
- Innovate: Designing improved or new processes that align with organizational goals.
- People: Ensuring alignment between processes and the people who execute them (roles, skills, communication).
- Customer Journey Mapping:
- Visually illustrate the steps, interactions, feelings, and pain points a customer experiences throughout the Learn, Buy, Get Use, Pay, Support journey
- Identify gaps, opportunities, and areas for improvement
- Translate into requirements to drive continuous Improvement
- Analyze information to identify trends, patterns, gaps, and insights using descriptive nalytics.
- Use data visualization tools to further business insights and industry best practices.
Execution & Quality Assurance
- Conduct end-to-end testing on applications and technology to ensure that business, technical, and functional requirements are met.
- Develop and implement UAT protocols for use by non-IT subject matter experts.
- Triage issues in testing to determine if they are a bug, a missing requirement, or due to poorly defined requirements.
- Manage and assist with the change process when a new system or process is implemented, helping to minimize disruption and maximize process adoption.
- Support Change Management activities for new system and process implementations.
- Assist in enforcement of project deadlines, schedules, and methodologies.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Communication: Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise manner across functional and technical departments.
- Drive: Must be energetic, driven and committed to project success while working under tight time constraints and pressure.
- Stakeholder Management: The ability to connect with senior business leaders to understand project priorities and align on success metrics and keep project efforts focused on achieving the desired business results.
Job Requirements
ACADEMIC TRAINING
Success begins with a strong foundation in analytical and technical disciplines:
- Degree: A University degree is required in a quantitative or technical field such as engineering, finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a similar discipline.
- Certifications (Preferred/Asset): While not explicitly required, knowledge of certain methodologies is highly valued:
- Business Analyst Certifications (e.g. CBAP)
- Project Management certifications (e.g., PMP or related technical discipline) is an asset.
- Knowledge of Agile methodology, Lean or Six Sigma methodology is preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Experience: 3+ years of progressive experience in Business Analysis is needed, with a focus on delivering solutions for large-scale, complex programs or strategic enterprise-wide transformations.
- Agile Experience: Demonstrated experience working with Agile product delivery teams.
- Methodology: Proven knowledge of project management techniques and Agile methodology.
Analytical & Technical Skills
- Data Proficiency: Advanced knowledge and experience using Google Workspace and a programming language (specifically Python and SQL) would be an asset
- Tooling (Preferred): Experience with enterprise applications like Salesforce, ServiceNow and Automation Anywhere is preferred.
- Hands on experience with modern BA and product delivery toolsets: Jira or Azure DevOps (for backlog and sprint management), Confluence or SharePoint (for documentation and knowledge management), Lucidchart / Visio / Miro (for process mapping and solution visualization), Postman or Swagger (for API validation where applicable)
- System Knowledge: experience with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Workspace, Salesforce), API-driven integrations, and workflow automation tools.
- Comfortable working in environments with microservices, distributed systems, and automated process orchestration.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to work on multiple tasks while maintaining high quality standards.
