About Us

GFL Environmental Services provides sustainable environmental solutions through a strategic footprint across Canada and the United States. Our success centers around a dedication to teamwork, collaboration, and creating innovative solutions that support a more sustainable future. We believe that, by providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions, we encourage greater environmental responsibility and allow our customers and the communities we serve to be Green For Life.

Sustainability has been core to our work since day one. We invest in technologies and practices that give our customers alternatives to traditional waste services, helping them meet their environmental goals while we work toward a circular economy.

Our Safe For Life culture ensures the tools, training, and standards are in place to keep our teams protected and prepared every step of the way.

Summary

As a Class 1 Driver, you will play a key role in visiting client sites using flatbed trailers to safely collect and transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. Leveraging your strong safe-driving record and knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), you will assist with container labeling, verify shipping documentation, and ensure full regulatory compliance. We are seeking a dedicated professional who brings a high standard of safety, customer service, and teamwork to our team.

This position is Monday through Friday and will be based out of Sparwood, BC.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Safely operate all assigned equipment, vehicles, trucks, and trailers, maneuvering them effectively into tight loading and unloading positions.
Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in optimal working order.
Promptly report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or equipment damage to management.
Oversee cargo handling, ensuring all bins and materials are safely loaded, secured, and transported using equipment such as trailer mounted forklift (Moffett).
Accurately identify, classify, and handle various types of hazardous waste in accordance with safety standards.
Complete and verify regulatory government paperwork, including waste manifests and bills of lading.
Strict adherence to all applicable legislation, including Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Transport Weights & Dimensions, Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), and Driver Hours of Service (electronic logbooks).
Professionally represent GFL on all client sites, delivering products and documentation in a courteous, timely manner while actively identifying opportunities to expand services.
Communicate clearly and effectively - both verbally and in writing - with customers, the general public, and team members.
Actively participate in routine safety meetings, Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and Last Minute Risk Assessments (LMRAs).
Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall operations.

Requirements

Valid Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License with a clean commercial driving abstract.
Proven experience hauling both Dry Van and Flatdeck trailers.
Ability to operate manual transmission experience is required.
Confident and skilled in driving in all weather conditions, including experience chaining up (asset).
Willingness to travel and perform out-of-town work (LOA provided).
Forklift or Moffett operating experience is a strong asset.
Physical capability to lift 50+ lbs. with good manual dexterity for loading, unloading, and securing cargo.
Proficient in completing manual paperwork as well as utilizing mobile apps and computer systems.
Ability to successfully pass pre-employment and site-specific drug and alcohol screenings.
Safety certifications (First Aid/CPR, CSTS, TDG, H2S Alive) are an asset; in-house training will be provided if needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Exceptional ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, manage timelines, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on delivering excellent customer service.
Proven ability to work safely and independently while maintaining a professional demeanor under pressure.
Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments across varying weather conditions.
Physical requirement: Manual dexterity and the ability to safely lift and carry 50+ lbs.
Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as operational needs require.

Competitive compensation package with a company-matched RRSP program to support your financial future.
Industry leading health, dental, vision and mental health benefits - with premiums fully covered by GFL.
