Original job description

Ready to elevate your career? GESI is expanding! We are officially hunting for our next Operations Integration Specialist to support Operations in Canada & USA - someone ready to bring fresh ideas and grow alongside a dynamic team.

About Us
GFL Environmental Services Inc. ("GESI") is a high-growth environmental services company recently carved out of GFL Environmental Inc. Backed by leading private equity firms, GESI delivers liquid waste, industrial cleaning, and soil remediation services across North America through a vertically integrated platform of over 230 sites and a fleet of 1,800+ vehicles. Our employees, collectively known as 'Team Green,' enjoy numerous benefits: career advancement opportunities, competitive benefits, job stability within an essential services company, and the chance to make a positive impact every day for our customers and communities, Green for Life!

The Role
We are looking for a strategic and empathetic Operations Integration Specialist to lead the transition experience for our newly acquired companies. In this role, you will be the "bridge" that connects new teams to GFL Environmental Services culture, systems, and processes.

You will not just be managing checklists; you will be designing the "Day 1" experience and beyond. Your primary focus will be creating seamless training curriculums and onboarding journeys that allow acquired employees to feel welcome, informed, and productive immediately after a deal closes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Integration Strategy & Planning

  • Playbook Development: Build and maintain a scalable "Acquisition Onboarding Playbook" that can be adapted for deals of different sizes (e.g., acquisition-hires vs. large mergers).
  • Due Diligence Support: Partner with the M&A team during the due diligence phase to assess the target company’s current tools, culture, and skill gaps to prepare a readiness plan.
  • Timeline Management: Create detailed project plans for "Day 1" (Close Date) through "Day 90," ensuring all training milestones are met without disrupting business continuity.

2. Training & Systems Migration

  • Gap Analysis: Conduct rapid needs assessments to identify the gap between the acquired team’s current skills and GFL’s tech stack/processes.
  • Curriculum Design: Collaborate with functional leads (Sales, Operations, Finance) to design role-specific training
  • Delivery: Facilitate or coordinate live training sessions, webinars, and self-paced e-learning to ensure rapid adoption of our internal tools.

3. Onboarding & Cultural Immersion

  • Cultural Harmonization: Act as a culture ambassador, helping acquired employees understand GFL’s values while respecting and celebrating the heritage of their original company.
  • Buddy Programs: Implement mentorship/buddy systems connecting acquired employees with long-tenured staff to foster organic networking.

4. Change Management & Communication

  • Feedback Loops: Conduct pulse surveys and listening tours 30, 60, and 90 days post-acquisition to identify friction points and adjust the integration strategy accordingly.
  • Retention Focus: Identify key talent within acquired groups and ensure they receive "white glove" onboarding support to mitigate attrition risks.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Organization Development, L&D (Learning & Development), M&A Integration, or Project Management.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Direct experience working on Post-Merger Integration (PMI) teams.
  • Experience in Waste Management, Project Management, Skills & Competencies
  • High EQ & Empathy: Ability to navigate the anxiety and uncertainty that acquired employees often feel.
  • Strategic Agility: Capable of switching between high-level strategy (planning the roadmap) and tactical execution (hosting a training session).
  • Data-Driven: Ability to define KPIs for integration success (e.g., "Order to Cash," "System Adoption Rates").
  • Travel expectations 50 to 80 percent
