The Haz Waste Processing Technician is responsible for the safe handling, receiving, consolidating, and processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials within the processing facility. Materials may include aerosols, flammable liquids, detergents, and a variety of industrial or retail waste streams, including damaged products.
This entry-level role requires a strong safety mindset, solid work ethic, and the ability to perform moderately labour-intensive and repetitive tasks in a warehouse environment. The standard work schedule consists of an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and process incoming waste streams safely, accurately, and efficiently.
- Accurately complete all paperwork, labels, and documentation.
- Verify incoming materials meet acceptance protocols; complete discrepancy reports when required.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks, totes, and containers.
- Operate processing equipment and machinery in accordance with safety procedures and training.
- Conduct job hazard assessments and contribute to a strong safety culture.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
- Maintain facility cleanliness through general housekeeping and equipment upkeep.
- Support additional facility tasks and activities as needed.
- Other duties as required.
- Forklift/Telehandler experience is an asset (training will be provided).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, perform repetitive physical tasks, and stand on concrete for extended periods.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail in completing paperwork.
- Problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Competitive compensation package with a company-matched RRSP program to support your financial future.
- Industry leading health, dental, vision and mental health benefits - with premiums fully covered by GFL.
- Access to Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) for you and your family.
- Paid training, professional development, and advancement opportunities.
- A positive, collaborative work culture that invests in your success.
