Original job description

Project Manager – Energy, Canada

There’s no pledge more important than the one we make to look after our environment, and we’re committed to helping you do exactly that. Join us as we strive to ensure a sustainable future for our communities and the world we live in.

Become part of our global network of skilled engineers, scientists, auditors, planners and environmental specialists, all working together to leave this world better than we found it.

GHD is committed to driving bold, sustainable, and profitable growth in the energy sector by expanding and investing in our most strategically important clients. At GHD, we combine technical excellence with deep client understanding to deliver lasting outcomes for our clients and communities. With growing demand each day, GHD aims to become a trusted advisor, integrator, and delivery partner across the energy lifecycle.

Who are we looking for?

To support GHD’s growth in the Energy business across Canada, GHD is making investments to increase our footprint. Our Canadian business is looking for a Project Manager to join their Energy team! In this role, you will expand our energy project delivery capabilities, grow our presence in Canada East and liaise with key clients across Canada, working with Canadian and North American leaders. You’ll support implementing strategic plans, identify client needs, and deliver cutting-edge solutions in areas like transmission, distribution, substations, hydropower, wind, solar, biofuels, hydrogen and renewable natural gas, and emerging technologies. You’ll support not only project delivery but also business development, while also working with other teams in Canada East. Teamwork is at the heart of our values, promoting strong collaboration across offices in the Region, across Canada, and also throughout the rest of North America, even globally. This is your opportunity to build lasting client relationships, mentor rising talent, and collaborate with industry leaders to champion innovative project delivery!

Role Purpose

This role combines project delivery management with strategic client relationship management for priority energy and utility clients. It is designed for a utility professional who can support and lead complex, multidisciplinary projects while also acting as a trusted client interface.

The role is delivery-led, with accountability for project delivery forming the core of the position, complemented by relationship management responsibilities that help strengthen GHD presence, client partnerships, identify future opportunities, and support sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management (≈70%)

Support the end-to-end delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary energy and utility projects, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives are achieved
Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary project teams across engineering, environmental, and advisory services, including core discipline delivery and subject matter experts
Support overall project governance, risk management, change control, and client reporting
Ensure consistent application of GHD’s health, safety, quality, and project management systems
Provide delivery support as required to achieve successful project outcomes
Support project managers and technical staff, contributing to capability development and delivery excellence
Support proposals and pursuits from a delivery, constructability, and execution perspective

Relationship Management & Business Development (≈30%)

Grow GHD’s presence in Canada East
Support Client relationship development through successful project delivery
Act as a trusted relationship lead for assigned utility clients or programs, working closely with sector and regional leadership
Serve as a client advocate internally, ensuring client priorities, constraints, and decision-making realities are understood across delivery teams
Support client engagement planning, including regular check-ins, lessons learned, and forward looking discussions
Identify organic growth opportunities arising from project delivery, including follow-on phases, extensions, and new programs
Contribute to pursuit strategies and proposals where delivery credibility and utility experience are key differentiators
Collaborate across regions and disciplines to deliver a One GHD approach to client solutions

Note: This is not a dedicated Enterprise Client Program Relationship Manager role, but a hybrid position anchored in project delivery with intentional relationship leadership responsibilities.

What you will bring to the team:

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical), or related technical field of study
Professional licensure or eligibility preferred (P.Eng.)
Recognition of the engineering title in other Canadian provinces and/or the United States is a plus
7-10 years of experience in the energy sector including business development, project management, and technical leadership for infrastructure, ideally within or for utilities
Analytical and project management skills, can work independently
Experience in multi-disciplinary, design integration and complex project delivery, including progress measurement and earned value management (EVM) experience
Background in project governance, cost control, scheduling, and risk management
Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with operational, and technical client stakeholders
Ability to engage and influence various stakeholders, including clients, partners, regulators, and internal teams
Experience with regulated utilities (generation, transmission & distribution, substations, hydro, or asset programs) is a strong asset
Comfortable operating in a hybrid role spanning delivery leadership and client-facing responsibilities
Valid driver’s licence
Experience with Design Bid Build (DBB), Design Build (DB), and alternative delivery projects such as Progressive DB, Integrated Project Delivery/Alliance and/or P3 considered an asset
