Millwork Engineer / CNC Programmer

Overview

Giffin Interior is a nationally recognized architectural millwork manufacturer just south of Pittsburgh. We build high-end commercial interiors and custom projects, and we’re looking for a Millwork Engineer / CNC Programmer to join our Pre-Production team. This role blends engineering, machining logic, and real-world buildability to support our shop, production efficiency, and overall project success, including generating CNC programs and panel saw patterns.

Key Responsibilities

Produce accurate CNC programs for nested routers, 5-axis equipment (Stiles/Homag), and panel saw patterns.
Translate approved shop drawings into engineering models and production-ready documentation.
Ensure buildability, AWI compliance, and alignment with Giffin construction standards.
Collaborate closely with Drafting, Engineering, Production, Project Management, and Purchasing.
Support the shop with technical questions and troubleshooting.
Identify issues early and contribute to continuous improvement around quality and throughput.

Qualifications

Experience in architectural millwork, casework, or custom fabrication.
Strong AutoCAD skills; experience with Microvellum (or other library-based systems) preferred.
CNC programming experience is a plus (Homag/WoodWOP beneficial).
Ability to read complex shop drawings and translate them into accurate production instructions.
Organized, detail-driven, and strong at solving buildability challenges.
Experienced fabricators or carpenters with real-world AutoCAD proficiency are encouraged to apply.
Candidates from both union and non-union backgrounds are welcome.

Why Join Giffin Interior

Above-industry-average compensation.
Full benefits package and regular overtime opportunities.
Standard hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday.
Modern equipment: CNC automation, StoreTeq material handling, 5-axis capability, and integrated INNERGY workflows across estimating, drafting, engineering, purchasing, production, and install.
Healthy team culture rooted in EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System).
40+ years of company stability with ongoing investment in people and technology.
Work on unique, high-profile commercial projects that rarely repeat.

Testimonials

I was extremely pleased to work with Giffin Interiors on the One PNC 30th Floor Boardroom Renovations project. This was a very challenging project that took place on PNC's highest executive floor. Throughout the job, Giffin was extremely cooperative, committed, and provided a great product. Overall, I am very happy with the relationship that has developed between Giffin and PJ Dick on the PNC jobs and I look forward to many successful projects together in the future.

Testimonials

Giffin interior & Fixture team, led by Project Manager Bill Wagner, fabricated and installed the entire millwork and casework of the Ambulatory Wing and some parts of the Laboratory Wing, both in the Hillman Cancer Center. In general, Giffin's work was outstanding in all the different aspects of the work. The quality of the work was excellent and includes superior level of finish. They were not intimidated of more complicated than usual tasks, and performed them with speed, accuracy and quality. All change order requests, which were required Giffin involvement, were negotiated and priced reasonably and fairly by Chief Estimator Ed Campbell, and the work completed in a timely manner. In general, the entire team, from the owner, Mr. Giffin, to the last laborer, show professionalism, care and willingness to do anything in their power to address any owner request, and to complete the project on time, with the highest level of quality possible.
