The successful candidate will serve as the corporate owner of Facilities and Utilities safety standards, including ammonia refrigeration, while partnering with site leadership to drive consistent engineering practices, infrastructure improvements, and long-term asset sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Strategy & Asset Planning (20%)

  • Develop and execute annual facilities engineering plans aligned with the company's three-year strategy.

  • Assess building infrastructure, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, utilities, fire protection, and grounds to identify risks, compliance gaps, and asset renewal priorities.

  • Maintain engineering drawings, technical specifications, and asset records while supporting lifecycle-based maintenance and repair budgets.

Capital Planning & Project Delivery (25%)

  • Lead facilities, utilities, safety, and asset renewal capital planning through the Reliability Funnel, maintaining a prioritized three-year project pipeline aligned with the CAPEX master plan.

  • Develop project scopes, business cases, budgets, cost estimates, cash flow forecasts, and risk assessments in collaboration with Engineering, Maintenance, Automation, Finance, and site teams.

  • Manage approved capital projects through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover, ensuring schedule, budget, safety, and performance objectives are achieved.

Facilities & Utilities Safety Standards (25%)

  • Own and maintain corporate Facilities and Utilities safety standards, including ammonia refrigeration, in partnership with Health & Safety and technical specialists.

  • Develop and implement standards for refrigeration, boilers, pressure systems, steam, compressed air, gas, HVAC, electrical infrastructure, and fire protection.

  • Establish requirements for safe operation, maintenance, inspections, testing, emergency preparedness, training, and compliance audits.

  • Identify compliance gaps, coordinate corrective actions, and escalate high-risk issues through established governance processes.

Facilities Reliability & Technical Support (20%)

  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to Maintenance Managers, Facilities Coordinators, planners, and trades across manufacturing locations.

  • Optimize preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.

  • Support root cause analysis, asset condition assessments, energy efficiency initiatives, and utility performance improvements.

  • Ensure engineering projects incorporate safe design, maintainability, hygienic construction, and effective equipment handover.

Performance Management & Vendor Coordination (10%)

  • Establish and monitor facilities KPIs related to reliability, preventive maintenance, compliance, utilities, costs, and capital project performance.

  • Partner with Procurement and site leadership to standardize contractor requirements, vendor specifications, and service agreements.

  • Coordinate technical training, share best practices across facilities, and support CMMS/SAP data readiness and utility monitoring integration.

Health, Safety & Food Safety

  • Ensure facilities engineering activities and capital projects comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain corporate safety standards, including ammonia refrigeration, and support risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Incorporate GMP, SQF, hygienic design, contamination prevention, and food safety requirements into maintenance and capital projects.

  • Partner with Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Sanitation teams to ensure safe execution and operational compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • P.Eng accreditation in Ontario.

  • Minimum five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including facilities engineering and capital project planning or execution.

  • Experience in food manufacturing or bakery operations and supporting multiple manufacturing locations is preferred.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, with working knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project planning tools, and CMMS systems.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, coaching, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.

Working Conditions
