Original job description
Our client is a highly respected, mission-driven organization dedicated to improving well-being and quality of life in the communities it serves. The organization is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Vice President, Finance to join its Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President will provide enterprise-wide leadership across Finance and corporate services, while serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team.
The organization delivers essential services to a large and diverse client base. Behind every service are countless financial, operational, and strategic decisions that turn resources into meaningful impact. As Vice President, Finance, the successful candidate will ensure the financial strength, insight, and discipline needed to advance the mission and support long-term sustainability.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished finance executive who combines strategic insight with operational leadership and wants to influence meaningful outcomes in a purpose-driven organization. More than a functional leader, the Vice President will be a key enterprise partner, helping shape strategy, support growth, and position the organization for continued success in a complex operating environment.
The Mandate
The mandate extends well beyond traditional financial stewardship. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the VP will help shape organizational strategy, support evidence-based decision-making, and ensure the long-term sustainability of an organization delivering critical services.
In partnership with the CEO, Board, and senior leadership team, the VP will provide strategic financial leadership across planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, treasury, audit, risk management, and compliance. They will ensure financial resources are aligned with organizational priorities while maintaining the discipline and accountability the mission requires.
A key priority will be supporting the organization through a period of growth and change. Using financial insights and performance data, the VP will help evaluate opportunities, inform strategic initiatives, and optimize the deployment of resources in a complex funding and operating environment. Success will require balancing long-term vision with disciplined execution and sound financial management.
Beyond finance, the VP will provide executive oversight of key corporate services, including procurement and facilities, ensuring effective stewardship of organizational resources and infrastructure. The role will also lead efforts to strengthen internal capabilities, foster collaboration across departments, and build a high-performing, engaged team.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to evolve the finance function from a trusted service provider into an even more proactive strategic partner and to enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. Success will be measured not only by financial outcomes, but also by the ability to influence strategy, support growth, and contribute to long-term sustainability and impact.
Leadership and Stewardship
The organization is seeking a VP Finance who leads with maturity and earns trust through action. This is not a role for someone who relies on title or tenure to get things done. The culture here rewards people who show up prepared, communicate clearly, and follow through.
- Operates with humility, credibility, and sound judgment
- Brings a practical, solutions-oriented mindset
- Communicates clearly and influences at all levels
- A good partner to the program managers – asking what they need before explaining what the number say
- Leads with integrity, accountability, and transparency
Ideal Background
The successful candidate will bring experience in social services, healthcare, the boarder public sector, or the not-for-profit sector. Those who understand the operational, funding, and stakeholder dynamics of publicly funded organizations will be particular well positioned for success.
- A CPA designation and progressive senior finance leadership experience.
- Experience leading finance within a complex, multi-stakeholder organization.
- A strong understanding of financial planning, financial reporting, treasury, governance, risk management, and internal controls.
- Experience working with Boards and senior executives in a strategic advisory capacity.
- The ability to translate financial information into actionable business insights.
- A collaborative leadership style and a reputation for building strong relationships across an organization.
Why This Role
This is a rare opportunity to combine executive-level impact with genuine purpose. As a strategic partner to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President, Finance will help shape decisions that influence the organization’s direction, sustainability, and growth.
The successful candidate will join an organization at an exciting point in its journey, with the opportunity to strengthen financial stewardship, support strategic priorities, and help position the organization for continued success. The organization measures its success not only by financial performance, but by the positive impact it has on the people and communities it serves.
If you are ready to make a meaningful impact and help shape the future of a mission-driven organization, we encourage you to apply in confidence.
