Original job description

Role Purpose

We are looking for a designer who can help take a project from an initial idea into a practical, buildable solution.

The Project Designer plays an active role throughout the Glenberg design-build process - from understanding what the client is trying to accomplish, through concept development and detailed design, and into construction.

Rather than simply producing drawings, this role helps connect the client's goals, the design, the budget and the way the project will ultimately be built.

What You'll Do

Understand the Project

Participate in early conversations with clients to understand their business, goals, needs, priorities and target budget.
Ask questions and listen carefully to understand what the client is trying to accomplish.
Help identify opportunities, challenges and potential solutions before design begins.
Translate client requirements into a clear design direction.

Develop the Design

Develop concepts, layouts, sketches and 3D models that respond to the client's goals.
Explore multiple solutions when appropriate and communicate the reasoning behind design decisions.
Develop designs that balance function, appearance, budget and constructability.
Work collaboratively with the client to refine the design.
Help ensure the design sets the client and project up for success.

Coordinate & Document

Produce accurate drawings, models and construction documentation.
Develop and maintain complete drawing sets throughout the project.
Coordinate design information with estimating, project management, construction and external consultants.
Consider materials, building systems, construction methods and cost throughout the design process.
Identify conflicts, gaps and potential construction issues before they become problems in the field.
Review drawings and documentation for accuracy and coordination.

Support Construction

Remain involved as the project moves from design into construction.
Assist with design questions, drawing revisions and field-related issues.
Participate in site visits and project meetings as required.
Review or assist with shop drawings and other project documentation where appropriate.
Work with the project team to resolve issues and maintain the intent of the design while responding to real-world construction conditions.

What You Bring

Experience in architectural design, drafting, architectural technology or a related field.
Strong understanding of construction and how buildings are assembled
Knowing how to read, understand, and apply Manitoba Building Code in design.
Experience producing architectural/construction drawings and documentation.
Proficiency with relevant 2D and 3D design software. AI experience important.
Ability to understand a client's needs and translate them into practical design solutions.
Strong understanding of the relationship between design, budget and constructability.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions, not assumptions
Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
A proactive, engaged approach to work.

What You Can Expect at Glenberg

The opportunity to work on commercial, multi-family and investment projects throughout Southern Manitoba.
The opportunity to see your designs move from an idea on paper to a completed building.
A collaborative environment where design, estimating, project management and construction work together.
The opportunity to work directly with clients and understand the “why” behind their projects.
A role where your ideas and problem-solving skills have a direct impact on the finished project.
A team that values relationships, innovation, engagement, teamwork and empowering others.
Competitive wages based on experience.

Interested in Joining the Glenberg Team?

If you're a designer who wants to do more than produce drawings - someone who wants to understand the project, develop the solution and see it through to construction - we'd like to hear from you.

Apply today and tell us why you'd be a great fit for Glenberg Design Builders.

______

Who We Are

Glenberg Design Builders is a Manitoba-based design-build company focused on commercial and multi-family construction. We work with businesses, investors, developers and organizations across Southern Manitoba to turn ideas into functional, well-designed spaces.

We believe a successful project starts long before construction begins. It starts with understanding what our clients are trying to accomplish, asking the right questions, and developing solutions that make sense for their needs and budget.

At Glenberg, design and construction work together. Our team brings the design, planning and construction process together under one roof, giving our clients one team to work with from the initial idea through project completion.

What We Do

We provide design-build construction solutions for commercial, multi-family and investment projects.

Our process starts with questions. We take the time to understand what our clients need, what they are trying to accomplish and what their budget looks like. From there, we develop a design and solution that fits those needs, put the plans together, and manage the construction through completion.

Ask Questions → Find Solutions → Create the Design → Put Together the Plans → Execute Construction → Complete the Project

Our Vision

To build an enduring legacy in our communities by inspiring elevated levels of design, continually raising the bar for higher standards of service and craftsmanship.

Our Mission

To design and build structures, creating lasting value for our clients and community through our dedication to innovation, craftsmanship, and exceptional service.

Our Values

Build Relationships: We care deeply about our clients, our team, and our communities. We are committed to building relationships that inspire trust and confidence in everything we do.
Seek Innovation: We strive to challenge the status quo. We are continuously evolving to provide our clients with the highest level of design, service, and craftsmanship.
Fully Engaged: We create an unparalleled client experience by being fully engaged in their vision – listening, communicating, and ensuring their dream build comes to life.
Team Focused: From in-house staff to our trusted network of building professionals, we are dedicated to creating an environment that recognizes the value each unique and talented individual brings to the Glenberg team.
Empowering Others: It is our privilege to empower others to create a brighter future.
