Role Purpose
We are looking for a designer who can help take a project from an initial idea into a practical, buildable solution.
The Project Designer plays an active role throughout the Glenberg design-build process - from understanding what the client is trying to accomplish, through concept development and detailed design, and into construction.
Rather than simply producing drawings, this role helps connect the client's goals, the design, the budget and the way the project will ultimately be built.
What You'll Do
Understand the Project
- Participate in early conversations with clients to understand their business, goals, needs, priorities and target budget.
- Ask questions and listen carefully to understand what the client is trying to accomplish.
- Help identify opportunities, challenges and potential solutions before design begins.
- Translate client requirements into a clear design direction.
Develop the Design
- Develop concepts, layouts, sketches and 3D models that respond to the client's goals.
- Explore multiple solutions when appropriate and communicate the reasoning behind design decisions.
- Develop designs that balance function, appearance, budget and constructability.
- Work collaboratively with the client to refine the design.
- Help ensure the design sets the client and project up for success.
Coordinate & Document
- Produce accurate drawings, models and construction documentation.
- Develop and maintain complete drawing sets throughout the project.
- Coordinate design information with estimating, project management, construction and external consultants.
- Consider materials, building systems, construction methods and cost throughout the design process.
- Identify conflicts, gaps and potential construction issues before they become problems in the field.
- Review drawings and documentation for accuracy and coordination.
Support Construction
- Remain involved as the project moves from design into construction.
- Assist with design questions, drawing revisions and field-related issues.
- Participate in site visits and project meetings as required.
- Review or assist with shop drawings and other project documentation where appropriate.
- Work with the project team to resolve issues and maintain the intent of the design while responding to real-world construction conditions.
What You Bring
- Experience in architectural design, drafting, architectural technology or a related field.
- Strong understanding of construction and how buildings are assembled
- Knowing how to read, understand, and apply Manitoba Building Code in design.
- Experience producing architectural/construction drawings and documentation.
- Proficiency with relevant 2D and 3D design software. AI experience important.
- Ability to understand a client's needs and translate them into practical design solutions.
- Strong understanding of the relationship between design, budget and constructability.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions, not assumptions
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
- A proactive, engaged approach to work.
