The Tactical Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing technically complex goods and services that support Glencore's mining and smelting operations across North America.

This position combines procurement expertise with technical knowledge, partnering closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, Operations, and Projects teams. In addition to purchasing activities, the role evaluates technical specifications, recommends suitable alternatives, improves supplier selection, and ensures cost-effective, commercially sound procurement decisions.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

Managing procurement activities in Coupa, from requisition review to purchase order issuance.
Purchasing technical and complex equipment, materials, and services for operations.
Reviewing specifications, drawings, OEM documentation, and technical requirements for accuracy and completeness.
Collaborating with maintenance, engineering, operations, project teams, and end users to understand business needs.
Evaluating and recommending technically sound alternatives that improve cost, lead times, availability, and reliability.
Working directly with OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, repair facilities, and engineering service providers.
Supporting sourcing activities, RFQs, tenders, and supplier evaluations alongside Category Leads.
Assessing supplier proposals from both technical and commercial perspectives.
Identifying opportunities for alternative sourcing, standardization, inventory optimization, and supply risk reduction.
Managing supplier relationships and ensuring timely delivery of critical materials and services.
Ensuring compliance with procurement policies, Delegation of Authority (DOA), Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes, and contractual requirements.
Maintaining accurate procurement records and master data in Coupa, SAP, and related systems.
Monitoring procurement performance through reporting and analytics.
Conducting site visits to develop a better understanding of equipment, maintenance requirements, and operational challenges.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement performance and operational reliability.

Do you have what it takes?

Trade certification or equivalent technical qualification (e.g., Millwright, Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, Welder, Heavy Equipment Technician).
3 to 5+ years of experience in maintenance, reliability, operations, maintenance planning/supervision, or technical procurement within mining, smelting, or heavy industrial settings.
Solid knowledge of industrial equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, rotating equipment, and maintenance practices.
Ability to interpret technical documents, drawings, manuals, and OEM specifications.
Experience with procurement processes and ERP systems such as SAP or Coupa.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, commercial, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Proven ability to build relationships with suppliers and technical teams while managing multiple priorities in a centralized procurement environment supporting multiple sites.

Travel: Occasional travel to supported operating sites across North America is required.

Language: Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English and French is required.

Location: Corporate office in Laval 5 days a week.

L'Acheteur technique tactique est responsable de l'approvisionnement et de l'achat de biens et services techniquement complexes soutenant les activités minières et métallurgiques de Glencore à travers l'Amérique du Nord.

Ce poste combine une expertise en approvisionnement et de solides connaissances techniques. La personne titulaire du poste travaille en étroite collaboration avec les équipes de maintenance, d'ingénierie, de fiabilité, d'exploitation et de gestion de projets. Plus spécifiquement, tu auras à :

Gérer les activités d'approvisionnement dans Coupa, de la révision des demandes d'achat à l'émission des bons de commande.
Acheter des équipements, matériaux et services techniques complexes nécessaires aux opérations.
Examiner les spécifications, dessins, documents des fabricants d'équipement d'origine (OEM) et exigences techniques afin d'en assurer l'exactitude et l'exhaustivité.
Collaborer avec les équipes de maintenance, d'ingénierie, d'exploitation, de projets et les utilisateurs finaux afin de bien comprendre les besoins opérationnels.
Évaluer et recommander des solutions de rechange techniquement valides permettant d'améliorer les coûts, les délais de livraison, la disponibilité ou la fiabilité.
Travailler directement avec les OEM, fabricants, fournisseurs, ateliers de réparation et prestataires de services d'ingénierie.
Soutenir les activités d'approvisionnement stratégique, les demandes de soumissions (RFQ), les appels d'offres et l'évaluation des fournisseurs en collaboration avec les responsables de catégories.
Évaluer les propositions des fournisseurs sous les angles technique et commercial.
Identifier des occasions de diversification des sources d'approvisionnement, de standardisation, d'optimisation des stocks et de réduction des risques liés à la chaîne d'approvisionnement.
Gérer les relations avec les fournisseurs et assurer la livraison en temps opportun des matériaux et services critiques.
Veiller au respect des politiques d'approvisionnement, des délégations de pouvoirs (DOA), des processus Procure-to-Pay (P2P) et des exigences contractuelles.
Maintenir à jour des dossiers d'approvisionnement et des données de référence exactes dans Coupa, SAP et les systèmes connexes.
Suivre la performance des activités d'approvisionnement à l'aide de rapports et d'outils analytiques.
Effectuer des visites de sites afin de mieux comprendre les équipements, les besoins de maintenance et les défis opérationnels.

As-tu ce qu’il faut?

Certificat de métier reconnu ou qualification technique équivalente (par exemple : mécanicien industriel, électricien, technicien en instrumentation, soudeur ou technicien d'équipement lourd).
De 3 à 5 ans ou plus d'expérience en maintenance, fiabilité, opérations, planification ou supervision de la maintenance, ou encore en approvisionnement technique dans un environnement minier, métallurgique ou industriel lourd.
Solides connaissances des équipements industriels, systèmes mécaniques et électriques, équipements rotatifs et pratiques de maintenance.
Capacité à interpréter des documents techniques, dessins, manuels et spécifications OEM.
Expérience des processus d'approvisionnement et des systèmes ERP tels que SAP ou Coupa.
Excellentes aptitudes en analyse, résolution de problèmes, prise de décisions et sens des affaires.
Bonnes habiletés en communication et en gestion des parties prenantes.
Capacité démontrée à développer des relations de confiance avec les fournisseurs et les équipes techniques tout en gérant plusieurs priorités dans un environnement d'approvisionnement centralisé soutenant plusieurs sites.
