Job Title: Commissioning Process Lead

POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a Commissioning & Startup professional to support commissioning activities within the Power Block area. The successful candidate will work closely with the Commissioning Coordinator, vendors, engineering teams, and Operations personnel to safely execute commissioning and startup activities, complete system walkdowns, support testing and reliability programs, and ensure commissioning procedures are properly implemented.
The role requires strong field experience, attention to safety, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in a commissioning and startup environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
First 3 Months
- Get up to speed quickly by working closely with the Commissioning Coordinator to understand the commissioning and startup plan for the Power Block area.
- Review System Commissioning Packages, procedures, and related documentation.
- Complete CSU Operator Training Material and Competency Validation for the Power Block Unit.
- Complete Safety Work Permit (SWP) training and become familiar with applicable site safety requirements and procedures.
Field Commissioning & Startup
- Support Construction Complete (CC) walkdowns.
- Support Mechanically Complete (MC) walkdowns.
- Install energy isolations and issue Safety Work Permits (SWPs) as required.
- Follow directions from the Power CSU Coordinator and provide accurate daily progress reports.
- Work under the direction of the CSU Coordinator with vendors and AP Engineering to execute commissioning and startup procedures.
- Oversee chemical cleaning and flushing activities for systems including HRSGs and lube oil systems.
- Perform initial cold/hot commissioning, functional testing, and trial runs of Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs).
- Support commissioning of the Steam Turbine Generator (STG) condenser and cooling water systems.
- Support STG steam line blowing activities.
- Support STG initial roll and heat-up activities, including overspeed testing, synchronization, and load progression.
- Support GTG and STG reliability testing.
- Support electrical testing of excitation system static frequency converters and generators.
- Support STG reliability testing and associated commissioning activities.
- Redline Operations Site Work Instruction Manuals (SWIMs), also referred to as Operating Procedures, based on field conditions and commissioning experience.
- Share commissioning and startup experience, technical knowledge, and lessons learned with the team.
- Teach and mentor less experienced team members.
- Support the training and development of Operations personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications (Academic, Professional): Power Engineer (in 4th Class)
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on operator experience with Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) and/or Steam Turbine Generators are a definite asset. Experience in the commissioning & startup of this equipment is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of GTG and/or STG operation required
