For over 25 years, Global Relay has set the standard in enterprise information archiving with industry-leading cloud archiving, surveillance, eDiscovery, and analytics solutions. We securely capture and preserve the communications data of the world’s most highly regulated firms, giving them greater visibility and control over their information and ensuring compliance with stringent regulations.

Though we offer competitive compensation and benefits and all the other perks one would expect from an established company, we are not your typical technology company. Global Relay is a career-building company. A place for big ideas. New challenges. Groundbreaking innovation. It’s a place where you can genuinely make an impact – and be recognized for it.

We believe great businesses thrive on diversity, inclusion, and the contributions of all employees. To that end, we recruit candidates from different backgrounds and foster a work environment that encourages employees to collaborate and learn from each other, completely free of barriers.

Your role:

This is a Java Developer Co-op position within Global Relay’s software development team.

The primary responsibility of the role would be to implement a data analytics engine and application with a Hadoop software stack, under the guidance of senior developers and architects. This would also involve refining the requirements for the application in conjunction with product management. The role would be required to research different implementation options and present back to both the architects and product management staff a set of the most viable implementation options plus an assessment of how the technology options affect the requirements.

About you:

Course work or work experience with Java
Course work or work experience with any of the following is an asset:
- Hadoop (Map Reduce, HDFS, HBase)
- Spark framework
- Text processing using Solr or Lucene
- Agile development methodologies
- Test driven development
- Continuous integration systems
- Service oriented architecture
- Web services technology such as REST, JSON, or Thrift

Technologies that we work with on a daily basis:

NoSQL DBs (HBase)
Distributed configuration management (Zookeeper)
Serialization libraries (Thrift, Protocol Buffers)
Large scale data processing (Hadoop, Flume, Kafka, Spark)
Build Automation (Ansible)
CI/CD (Jenkins)
Workflow scheduling (Oozie)
Security (SSL, OAuth)
Dependency injection frameworks (Guice, Spring)
CQRS frameworks (Axon)
Text search engines (ElasticSearch)

Think you’re a great fit for this job? Apply on our Global Relay Careers page with your cover letter, resume, and university transcripts in one PDF document. No emails or phone calls please; candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Compensation:Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in accordance with provincial law. Salaries are displayed in the form of annual base salary but are paid out semi-monthly for the duration of employment.

Base salary range: $42,000 CAD - $66,000 CAD

What you can expect:

At Global Relay, there’s no ceiling to what you can achieve. It’s the land of opportunity for the energetic, the intelligent, the driven. You’ll receive the mentoring, coaching, and support you need to reach your career goals. You’ll be part of a culture that breeds creativity and rewards perseverance and hard work. And you’ll be working alongside smart, talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, with complementary knowledge and skills.
