Business Systems Analyst

Location: Toronto, ON

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid - 2 days onsite, 3 days work from home (with potential to shift to 4 days per week onsite)

Contract Details

Position Type: Contract
Contract Duration: 12 months (with possibility of extension based on business needs and performance)
Pay Rate: C$75.00–C$90.00 / Hour (CAD)
Shift / Schedule: Monday–Friday, core business hours - 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day
Travel Requirements: Not required

Job Summary

This Business Systems Analyst role provides support and produces detailed system requirements and technical/functional specifications in alignment with standards and frameworks. The BSA works in close partnership with business partners, technology/pod members, and stakeholders to elicit, analyze, document, communicate, and manage detailed business systems requirements. The scope of this project spans transaction details - credit cards, deposit accounts, data migration and integrations, and data mapping - within a team of 24 people organized into pods of 8–12. The contractor will have access to customer data. Meetings account for approximately 4 hours per day on average, with both internal and external stakeholder interactions. Onboarding includes a TD onboarding period, knowledge transfer, and shadowing before hitting the ground running.

Key Responsibilities

Develop effective and efficient solutions by researching/analyzing current state system capabilities and defining technology solution options/recommendations, working closely with key technology partners (e.g., Solution Architects and Quality Assurance staff)
Define, document, and translate business requirements into detailed-level user stories including functional specifications and non-functional specifications
Support testing teams in translating requirements and use cases into test conditions and expected results for product, performance, user acceptance, and operational acceptance testing
Support and contribute to agile ceremonies/activities by participating in standups, story refinements, and estimating of feature efforts, risks identification and mitigation measures recommendation, communicating activity status, and providing timely notification and escalation of possible issues/problems to the pod
Participate in quality management reviews, in particular reviews of the designs, prototypes, and other requirements work products to ensure they fulfill the requirements
Collaborate with pod members and key stakeholders to determine solutions, assess impact to existing work processes and systems, and how to manage the integration
Provide operational/process-related analysis and support to various extents
Ensure best practices related to the BSA discipline are adhered to and enforced within project processes and deliverables
Adhere to TD processes/standards including requirements management and project management disciplines, well-defined enterprise technology delivery practices and standards, and business technology architecture, escalating issues as required
Continuously enhance knowledge/expertise in own area and keep current with leading-edge technology trends/developments, and develop expertise in TD services, applications, infrastructure, analytical tools and techniques that can contribute to effective solution development/delivery
Continuously enhance knowledge of business domains and their products/services
Maintain ongoing communication with all stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle
Perform BSA tasks effectively while assigned to a single project or multiple concurrent projects
Prioritize and manage own workload in order to deliver quality requirements/user stories and meet timelines
Support a positive work environment that promotes service to the business, quality, innovation, and teamwork, and ensure timely communication of issues/points of interest
Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business units
Coach new or less experienced colleagues and act as a reference for the requirements management lifecycle
Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance productivity, effectiveness, and operational efficiency of the business unit and/or team

Required Skills

10 years of BSA experience
Thorough understanding of API (back-end systems, documentation)
Jira and Confluence proficiency
Agile delivery experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable working with both business and technical teams
Self-starter with the ability to multi-task effectively and independently within a fast-paced environment
Able to gauge the appropriate level of priority, detail, and/or effort on any given project

Expert knowledge of system analysis process and techniques
Expert knowledge of systems and applications supported by the team including system components, functionality, interfaces, data flows, and business rules
Expert knowledge of enterprise technology delivery practices and standards and related expertise including design, development, testing, and project management/SAFe agile methodology
Advanced to expert understanding of the business supported and broader organization
Works independently as the senior or lead system analyst and coaches/guides members within area of expertise
Subject matter expert; consults with clients and/or project teams and may be involved in the assessment of potential projects
Organized, with strong attention to detail
Strong problem-solving skills

Education Requirements

Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Engineering is an asset
