Senior Accountant
Company: GLP Canada
Location: Mississauga, ON, with regular travel between our three branches in Mississauga and Oakville
Reports To: Controller
Employment Type: Full-Time, Onsite (hybrid after the first 6 months)
Hours: Monday to Friday, full-time
Salary: $80,000–$100,000 per year, based on experience, plus bonus
About the Role
The Senior Accountant is a hands-on CPA and team lead who brings fresh eyes to how we work. You'll lead our AR, AP and accounting team, keep the month-end close and reconciliations running smoothly, and champion automation and process improvement across finance. You'll also play a key role as we move to a new ERP. If you're a curious, tech-savvy accountant ready to step into a team lead role, we'd like to talk.
What Will You Do?
- Lead, coach and support the AR, AP and accounting team, including running month-end huddles and helping grow the team.
- Travel regularly between our branches to support the team, build strong working relationships and keep finance processes consistent across sites.
- Oversee the month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations across our Canadian and U.S. entities, supporting a 5–6 working day close.
- Oversee AR posting and invoicing, and review payment runs before approval.
- Update the consolidation model and prepare consolidation, intercompany and foreign currency entries.
- Maintain the fixed asset register, inventory reserves and month-end workbooks, including rebates and warranty provisions.
- Drive AP automation and process improvement, using tools such as Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI and AI to take manual work out of the process.
- Play a key role in the ERP migration: documenting requirements, cleaning and mapping data, testing and helping train the team.
- Prepare GST/HST and PST filings, and support commodity tax compliance.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for the year-end audit, and entity information for corporate tax filings.
What Do You Bring?
- CPA designation (required) and a degree in accounting or finance.
- 4–6 years of recent, progressive accounting experience, including 1–2 years leading or managing accounting staff, and month-end close and reconciliations in a multi-entity environment.
- If you're an experienced accountant who has recently stepped into a management role, we'd still love to hear from you, as long as you're ready to take full ownership of a team.
- Hands-on experience with consolidation and intercompany eliminations.
- Experience with tax, including preparing GST/HST and PST filings.
- Tech-savvy, with advanced Excel skills (including Power Query), which will be assessed during the interview process.
- Experience with multiple ERP systems; Sage 100, Sage 300 or NetSuite experience is a strong asset.
- A curious, agile approach and a Lean, continuous improvement mindset, with real examples of automating manual processes.
- A leader who brings fresh perspective, isn't afraid to challenge how things are done, and takes the initiative to find solutions independently.
- Ambitious and motivated to grow your career within the organization.
- Manufacturing or distribution experience is preferred.
- Commodity tax experience is a strong asset.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
What Do We Offer?
- The tools, resources, and support to succeed, along with opportunities to learn, develop, and grow your career with GLP.
- Opportunity for advancement and growth as a team lead.
- A key role in modernizing our finance function, from automation to a new ERP.
- A workplace where work-life balance is not only valued, but prioritized.
- A diverse, inclusive, and collaborative team culture, with company events and on-site parking.
- Comprehensive health benefits, including dental and extended health care, plus a bonus.
How You'll Make an Impact
You’ll be the person who turns our month-end into a consistent 5–6 day close across our Canadian and U.S. entities, and builds a strong, accountable AR, AP and accounting team. You’ll continuously improve how we work, bringing innovative techniques and modern tools to make our processes more efficient, taking manual work out of AP and reporting through automation, and keeping our finance function up to date with today’s best practices, while staying audit-ready and compliant every step of the way.
