About The Company

A Canadian manufacturer with decades of experience designing and manufacturing custom electrical power distribution and control solutions, including switchgear, substations, modular buildings, and power-generation equipment. The company serves customers across mining, oil & gas, commercial and industrial, renewable energy, and transportation sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical drawings, design packages, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation for industrial projects.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, cable tray layouts, lighting layouts, and low-voltage system drawings.
  • Design and support both high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems.
  • Perform electrical calculations, including voltage drop, transformer sizing, cable sizing, panel loading, and other power distribution calculations.
  • Ensure electrical designs meet project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and company requirements.
  • Use electrical design and drafting software such as AutoCAD and other engineering tools.
  • Support the selection and specification of electrical equipment and materials.
  • Assist with electrical studies, conceptual designs, technical reports, and project cost estimates.
  • Support testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and implementation of electrical designs as required.
  • Work closely with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and other team members to ensure electrical designs integrate effectively with the overall product and project.
  • Maintain regular involvement with the manufacturing operation to understand how designs are built and identify opportunities to improve designs.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems with limited supervision.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality and take responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of work.
  • Communicate project requirements, technical information, and potential issues clearly with team members.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, procedures, continuous improvement, and the ongoing development of the electrical function.
  • Stay current with relevant electrical codes, industry standards, technologies, and best practices.
  • Travel to the Okanagan manufacturing operation and other project or construction sites as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related electrical discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant electrical design or engineering experience.
  • Practical industrial electrical experience is required; residential electrical experience alone is not sufficient.
  • Experience working with high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial power distribution systems and electrical design principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prepare electrical drawings and complete design packages.
  • Experience preparing and interpreting electrical single-line diagrams.
  • Experience with industrial equipment, manufacturing, mining, power distribution, or similar heavy industrial environments is preferred.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar electrical design/drafting software.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian electrical codes, standards, and industry requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Strong time management and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Dependable and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership and urgency.
  • Able to work independently without extensive training or day-to-day supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly.
  • Team-oriented and comfortable working closely with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
  • Motivated to contribute beyond assigned tasks and support the company's continued growth.
  • Able and willing to maintain regular in-person involvement with the Okanagan manufacturing operation.
  • Candidates located in the Okanagan/Kelowna area are preferred; Lower Mainland candidates may also be considered with access to the Port Coquitlam office and willingness to travel to the Okanagan.
