Treasury Board and Finance – Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA), TRA - is responsible for the collection of revenue and the administration of Alberta’s tax, revenue and related benefit programs. Role Responsibilities

Are you a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), working towards the CPA designation, or an accounting professional with experience in audit, tax administration or the oil and gas industry? Do you have knowledge of Alberta’s corporate tax, commodity tax or royalty regimes and enjoy challenging work? The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division is looking for auditors for our audit team. We are an enthusiastic, goal-orientated and knowledgeable team – join us!

Reporting to a Senior Manager in the audit branch, you will conduct desk and field audits and reviews, of low and medium complexity, involving a variety of corporate tax, commodity tax or royalty programs. You will be required to perform audit planning, sample selection, develop audit programs, gain a comprehension of the auditee’s accounting systems and processes, and complete substantive audit testing. You will use your extensive knowledge and audit skills to ensure that returns are reported accurately under the Acts and Regulations administered by the TRA Audit branch. You will also be challenged to demonstrate creativity and innovation in identifying audit efficiencies and adapting to changing environments in Alberta's tax and royalty programs. As an auditor, you will be responsible for identifying potential regulatory or policy issues, as well as providing comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations to senior management.

You must be able to prioritize to ensure you meet tight timelines. You have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and are able to articulate and present complex issues to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical and interpretative skills as well as attention to detail and accuracy will assist you in this role. The ability to build collaborative environments by establishing positive working relationships and managing multiple assignments simultaneously in support of branch objectives is key.

Qualifications

Required:

University graduation in commerce, accounting, finance, business administration, or other related field, plus a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in audit, the oil and gas industry, accounting, royalty, or tax administration is required. Equivalencies may be considered.

Assets:

Experience in audit, accounting, royalty administration, tax administration, or the oil and gas industry.
Knowledge of Alberta corporate tax legislation, commodity tax provisions, royalty frameworks or related regulatory requirements.
Experience conducting audits of tax, royalty, compliance or regulatory programs.
Proficiency in data analytics tools and techniques, including the analysis and interpretation of large and complex datasets and AI tools such as Copilot.
Experience preparing audit findings, recommendations, technical reports or compliance assessments for management and stakeholders.

Notes

There is one full-time permanent position and one 6 months temporary position with the possibility of extension, working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. These positions will be located at Edmonton Government Centre.
