Role Responsibilities

Are you a strategic thinker with strong analytical and reporting skills? Join our team and help drive organizational excellence through corporate planning, performance measurement, and data-informed decision-making.

Under the supervision of the Manager, the Corporate Planning and Reporting Analyst provides project management expertise, technical and analytical support, and advice and recommendations to ministry staff to facilitate the timely and efficient production and implementation of business planning and reporting processes to meet legislated requirements.

The Corporate Planning & Reporting Analyst will provide coordination, consultation, quality control, and project management to support the ministry’s strategic, business, and operational planning, reporting, executive performance agreements, and enterprise risk management. Deliverables include ministry business and operational plans, ministry annual report, risk reports, executive performance agreements, briefings and binders. The Corporate Planning & Reporting Analyst solicits and coordinates input from throughout the ministry and edits it to make sure it is ready for internal and external publication. This work is required to meet the government's public accountability requirements under the Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act, with guidance and direction from Treasury Board and Finance, Executive Council and the Office of the Auditor General.

To be effective in this role, the incumbent will need to be a strong communicator (verbally and in writing) and able to build relationships throughout the ministry to influence and support outcomes. Political acumen, agility, and the ability to approach politically sensitive matters in a confidential, proactive, and positive manner are necessary. A working knowledge of the software tools used to carry out job responsibilities (primarily Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, AI Tools (Co-Pilot, Gemini Etc.) and Adobe Acrobat), project management skills, and the ability to consistently meet hard deadlines are essential.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standard:

University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below. Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or

1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Preference will be given to candidates with university graduation in Political Science, Public Administration, Business, Project Management, Policy Analysis, and Communications.

In addition to the required qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess the following assets:

Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of the Government of Alberta's business planning and reporting cycle and processes.
Comprehensive knowledge of the ministry's business plan, strategic priorities, mandates, programs and other business area functions.
Awareness of branch, divisional, ministry and government objectives and priorities in decision-making.
Awareness of government strategic directions and priorities as they relate to the ministry mandate and initiatives.
Knowledge of relevant government legislation and regulations (e.g., Alberta's Fiscal Planning and Transparency Act, Alberta Foundation for the Arts Act, Financial Administration Act, and Legislative Assembly Act).
Understanding of the client and stakeholder communities impacted by the ministry mandate and operations, including relevant organizations, committees, advisory groups and representatives.
Strong understanding of executive level decision-makers' information needs.
Knowledge of the political environment within which the ministry operates and the decision-making processes of the ministry Executive Team, Executive Council, Legislative Assembly and Treasury Board and Finance.
Understanding of and experience with project management techniques.

Skills:

Analytical and critical thinking skills.
Well-developed project planning and management skills, including the ability to plan, coordinate and execute concurrent complex projects.
Advanced software skills in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams, as well as Adobe Acrobat and AI tools such as Co-Pilot and Gemini.
Advanced time management and organizational skills to function under pressure on several projects simultaneously and meet firm deadlines.
Ability to build collaborative networks and working relationships with staff across the ministry.
Ability to facilitate problem solving and decision-making with diverse groups and employ consulting/consensus building techniques.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including:
