Original job description

Please note: This is a term position until October 1, 2027

What if your next career move came with thousands of lakes, endless trails, and a front-row seat to the aurora? Trade traffic jams for hiking trails, frozen lakes, and a five-minute commute.

As a Hearing Aid Practitioner, you'll work independently alongside a skilled territorial audiology team, assessing hearing loss, fitting and troubleshooting hearing aids, conducting audiometric testing, and guiding patients through every stage of their hearing journey.

This is a role built for practitioners who value growth, variety, and meaningful impact. You'll practice and gain experience that few urban positions can match.

One appointment might help an elder reconnect with family conversations, while the next helps a worker return safely to the job site or supports early identification of hearing challenges through community outreach.

Your expertise will reach beyond the clinic through travel services, education, rehabilitation strategies, and collaboration with healthcare providers across the Northwest Territories.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salaries: $92,430 - $110,390
  • Northern Living allowance: $3,700
  • Paid relocation, including up to 21 days of paid accommodations.

Qualifications

  • Diploma course for Hearing Aid Practitioner or Hearing Instrument Practitioner/ Specialist.
  • Similar disciplines may include Hearing Instrument Sciences or a specialized Hearing Instrument Specialist program.
  • Certification by the National Board of Hearing Instrument Specialists prior to commencement of employment
  • Licensed as a Hearing Aid Practitioner or Hearing Instrument Practitioner/Specialist in a Canadian province/territory.
  • Proof of Immunization in keeping with current public health practices is required

Yellowknife blends northern adventure with surprising convenience. In less than five minutes, you can leave work and find yourself paddling a quiet bay, casting a line under the midnight sun, or walking among snow-covered trails beneath the northern lights. Summer brings long golden evenings, outdoor markets, and festivals such as Folk on the Rocks, while winter transforms the city into a playground of ice roads, winter celebrations, and world-class aurora viewing. Local restaurants serve everything from fresh northern fish to global cuisine, and a welcoming community creates space to build lasting connections. If you're looking for a career that expands your skills while surrounding you with wilderness, culture, and opportunity, Yellowknife is ready to be heard.
