Reporting to the Conservation Officer III (CO III), the Conservation Officer II (CO II) is responsible for delivering wildlife management, environmental protection, and renewable resource programs while enforcing territorial and federal legislation in accordance with the Nunavut Agreement. Working closely with the Hunters and Trappers Organizations (HTOs), harvesters, communities, and partner agencies, the CO II promotes conservation, public education, and responsible resource management that supports Nunavutโs mixed and traditional economy. Through strong relationships, effective enforcement, and community engagement, this role helps ensure the sustainable use of wildlife and natural resources for current and future generations.

Qualifications
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a College Diploma in Environmental Conservation, Renewable Resources Management, or a related field. A valid Class 5 driver's licence is also required, along with the ability to operate trucks, snowmobiles, and ATVs.
The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a Transport Canada-approved Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) and a Firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) within six (6) months of employment.
The following qualifications are considered assets:
First Aid and CPR certification;
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification;
Experience with wilderness travel and survival skills;
Education or experience in enforcement, licensing, and inspection techniques;
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP);
Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3);
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification; and/or
Boat, ATV, and/or snowmobile safety or proficiency course certifications.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavutโs official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

Department of Environment
The Department of Environment is responsible for program areas such as Wildlife Management, Parks and Special Places, Environmental Protection and fisheries and sealing. This department provides education and outreach to a wide range of audiences including youth, community members, elders and teachers to ensure the Inuit societal value of Avatittinnik Kamatsiarniq (environmental stewardship).
