Job Summary And Requirements

Join Our Team at the Department of Highways and Public Works!

Are you ready to make a positive impact on Yukon communities? The Department of Highways and Public Works provides the necessary structure that makes life in Yukon possible. Together, we are committed to uphold the values of safety, innovation, teamwork, and leadership in our everyday work.

We are currently seeking a talented individual to join our Transportation team. The position of Junior Engineer supports our asset management programs for highway surfaces and drainage infrastructure. Through condition assessment, analysis, and planning activities, the role helps inform rehabilitation and replacement decisions that shape future transportation investments across the Yukon.

The position offers a unique combination of field and office experience. During the summer season (May-September), responsibilities focus on fieldwork across the territory, including conducting condition assessments, identifying treatment recommendations, and evaluating infrastructure needs. Winter months are primarily office-based and focus on analyzing infrastructure condition data, identifying deterioration trends, assessing rehabilitation options, and supporting data informed investment and project prioritization decisions.

Under the guidance of a Supervising Engineer/Mentor, the Junior Engineer will receive supervised work experience and progressively develop the skills, experience and competencies needed to become a professional engineer.
