This is a full-time (75 hours biweekly), two-year term / anticipatory permanent position. Temporary Assignments will be considered with your supervisor’s approval.

As a central agency, the French Language Services Directorate (FLSD) supports, collaborates with and empowers the Government of Yukon departments and other public bodies to serve and inform the public in French. We foster strong partnerships with departments and stakeholders to improve access to government services in French. We aim at building bilingual capacities across government by providing client-focused services such as translation, training, advice, and operational support.

The opportunity…

Reporting to the Senior Language Policy Advisor, the Language Policy Advisor provides policy development, research, and analysis to streamline and normalize the planning and delivery of French-language services. The position contributes to the development of strategic and business plans and collaborates with client departments to implement and evaluate them. This position also supports and advises client departments on implementing the Policy and Guidelines on French-language services and communications. The work is fast paced, varied and requires the ability to manage and prioritize several projects with multiple clients and stakeholders at once.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Post-secondary degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Linguistics, Political Science, Economics, International Studies, Law, Journalism, Social or Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, or related field and/or relevant work experience;
Experience conducting research, analyzing data, and communicating complex ideas;
Experience developing policies, directives, and/or guidelines;
Experience providing well-reasoned strategic advice, information and recommendations to decision-makers;
Experience planning, coordinating, and leading multi-staged projects;

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge, Skills And Suitability

To best support the achievement of key strategic and business objectives, candidates should have and may be assessed on:

Project and time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines;
Strong attention to detail;
Strong research, analytical, data management and problem-solving skills;
Ability to think strategically and make reasoned recommendations;
Ability to effectively build and steward the relationship between FLSD and client departments, through collaboration and cooperation with people with diverse and conflicting interests;
Being adaptable and flexible to changing priorities;
Willingness to grow, learn, and develop;
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.

Job Requirements

This position works in a typical office environment;
Occasional travel both in and outside of the Yukon to represent the Directorate and is also required to attend meetings, conferences and training;
This position is occasionally required to work weekends and evenings to attend public engagements, training activities, special events, or for public emergencies;
