PROFILE
As a member of our Advocacy Law Clerk team, our E-Discovery Law Clerk plays a pivotal role in our litigation group providing counsel and support on the use of discovery technology, data management assistance, and electronic document presentation and support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consulting and supporting counsel in the application and use of Discovery technologies;
- Assisting in creating a Discovery strategy on various files and managing various phases of document production;
- Providing data management assistance, including the execution, logging and management of data acquisitions, ingestion, processing, loading, and document production in various database formats;
- Providing support to lawyers at other stages of litigation, including preparing for hearings, discoveries, trials and appeals, including electronic document presentation and support, if necessary, and preparation of materials for experts;
- Independent maintenance of files, including monitoring, organization, updating of material and contact with opposing counsel and management of documents in electronic databases;
- Proactive approach to work including initiating follow up actions;
Analyzing, reviewing, generating and communicating updates, summaries and project metrics to Calgary professionals and clients on an as needed basis;
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8+ years as a Law Clerk/Paralegal;
- Law Clerk/Paralegal or Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate or equivalent Law Clerk experience;
- Experience within a law firm environment, particularly with large, complex commercial litigation files;
- Previous knowledge and experience with database applications (Summation, Caselogistix, Relativity, or other Discovery platforms) is required;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and translate electronic discovery terminology, methodologies, approaches and technical information to clients and legal counsel;
- Superior analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and to redefine priorities when necessary;
- Excellent technical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently with minimal direction and supervision;
- In depth knowledge of legal terminology, principles and rules of civil procedure and process is an asset;
- Ability to communicate effectively in a professional, confidential and courteous manner;
Ability to work well under pressure with fluid and changing priorities and deadlines Willing to work extended or off business hours, when necessary, in order to meet critical timelines and due dates;
Interpersonal skills required to work effectively with other staff and professionals in a team environment.
