Original job description
Come help build the future, where our work makes the world work!
Vacancy Status: This is an evergreen posting intended to proactively identify and connect with talent for ongoing and future opportunities.
Join the Green Infrastructure Partners team, where quality, collaboration, and exceptional service are at the core of everything we do. As one of Canada’s leading construction and infrastructure companies, we support a wide range of complex projects across the country, including heavy civil, industrial, infrastructure, and major project work.
At Green Infrastructure Partners, our teams deliver complex projects and create opportunities for our people to grow. We are seeking motivated candidates to support our heavy civil projects. New graduates and experienced field professionals are encouraged to apply.
What You’ll Do:
Coordinate GIP’s heavy civil projects from a St. John’s base, reporting to the assigned Project Manager and coordinating daily field priorities with the Site Superintendent. Responsibilities and authority reflect experience, qualifications, and project needs: graduates receive guidance; experienced candidates may own assigned work packages, subcontractor coordination, progress reporting, and cost tracking. Refer technical queries and proposed design changes to the responsible designers through project procedures.
Responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate assigned heavy civil work, including earthworks, roads, bridges, concrete structures, foundations, utilities, and marine works, in accordance with project requirements and delegated authority.
- Review drawings, specifications, contract requirements, survey information, geotechnical reports, and existing site conditions; identify discrepancies and constructability issues and coordinate requests for information (RFIs) with the project team and responsible designers.
- Prepare and update assigned work plans, construction sequences, work packages, and look-ahead schedules with site supervision; identify constraints, monitor progress, and flag potential delays.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, surveyors, and testing agencies to align field activities and resolve issues. Direct supervision of personnel applies only where specifically assigned.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and material requirements; coordinate assigned procurement activities, submittals, delivery tracking, and material and equipment availability.
- Track installed quantities, labour and equipment usage, productivity, and progress; maintain daily reports and field records and contribute to resource forecasts and project cost reporting.
- Support progress claims, subcontractor payment reviews, and change tracking; document extra work and potential cost or schedule impacts for review by project management.
- Coordinate assigned inspections and testing, maintain inspection and test records, and track deficiencies and corrective actions with the responsible personnel.
- Coordinate survey and layout requirements; carry out assigned field measurements, quantity and grade checks, and verification of construction against approved drawings and specifications.
- Follow company, client, and site-specific health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) requirements; participate in planning and inspections, promptly report and escalate hazards and nonconformances, and follow up on assigned actions.
- Maintain current drawings, RFIs, submittals, photographs, and project records; track meeting actions and coordinate assigned as-built documentation, turnover packages, and closeout records.
- Communicate field priorities and outstanding issues clearly, and build professional working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, Indigenous partners, and other stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and support to students and junior personnel where assigned, appropriate to experience and under the direction of project management and site supervision.
What We're Looking For:
We’re excited to meet candidates who have:
- A degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction engineering technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and practical construction experience.
- 0–10 years of relevant experience in heavy civil construction, field engineering, project coordination, or a related role. New graduates are welcome; co-op and work-term experience is an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, with knowledge of construction methods, quantities, scheduling, and quality requirements appropriate to your experience level.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, scheduling, estimating, or project management software is an asset.
- A strong commitment to HSEQ, with the ability to learn and follow company, client, and site-specific procedures and exercise sound judgment when escalating issues.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and sound judgment; clear communication, effective teamwork, and the ability to organize priorities, adapt to changing conditions, and follow actions through to completion.
- A valid driver’s licence and the ability to meet project, client, and remote-site access requirements.
Travel & Working Conditions:
- Must be willing and able to travel to project sites and work away from St. John’s for extended periods, including assignments in remote locations and camp-based environments.
- Must be willing and able to work extended shifts, rotational schedules, weekends, and night shifts as required by project needs.
- This is a field-oriented role involving outdoor work in varying weather and terrain, with office and site duties determined by the assignment.

At GIP, we’re committed to:
