Summary

The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic HR partner for assigned client groups within Ontario. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources & Labour Relations, this role partners closely with Regional Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, Directors, operational leaders, HR colleagues, and Union representatives to align people strategies with business objectives.

As a trusted advisor, the HRBP provides leadership across employee and labour relations, talent management, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, succession planning, performance management, and change management initiatives. This position supports a large, complex, and growing client group and requires a seasoned HR professional capable of operating independently while influencing at all levels of the organization. This role is based in Markham Ontario with regular travel throughout the Ontario region.

Primary Scope Of Role

STRATEGIC HR PARTNERSHIP & WORKFORCE PLANNING

Serve as the primary HR Business Partner for assigned client groups.
Partner with leaders to develop and execute people strategies aligned with business objectives.
Lead workforce planning, succession planning, organizational design, and talent management initiatives.
Analyze workforce trends and provide recommendations to improve organizational effectiveness.
Support organizational restructuring, integration, business transformation, and organizational growth initiatives.
Facilitate talent reviews, career development, succession planning, and leadership assessments.

EMPLOYEE & LABOUR RELATIONS

Provide expert guidance on collective agreements, employment legislation, HR policies, and best practices.
Lead employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, conflict resolution, attendance management, performance management, and progressive discipline.
Manage labour relations issues, grievances, and collective agreement interpretation.
Foster positive union-management relationships and partner with union representatives to resolve workplace concerns.
Support employee engagement, retention, and effective resolution of workforce challenges.

LEADERSHIP COACHING & TALENT DEVELOPMENT

Coach leaders on leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, performance management, and workforce planning.
Support change management initiatives and leadership development.
Develop and deliver HR training, communications, and presentations.
Support recruitment and selection activities for management and critical talent roles.

HR OPERATIONS, COLLABORATION & PROJECT DELIVERY

Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Benefits, Health & Safety, Learning & Development, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated HR solutions.
Support and implement HR programs, initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
Conduct regular site visits to maintain strong partnerships with leaders and employees.
Lead or participate in enterprise-wide HR projects and strategic initiatives.

Position Requirements

Minimum 3-7 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including business partnering with senior operational leaders.
Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
CHRL designation required; CHRE designation considered an asset.
Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, labour relations, talent management, organizational development, and change management.
Significant experience working in a unionized environment, preferably in construction, infrastructure, industrial, manufacturing, or related sectors.
Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and HR best practices.
Experience facilitating succession planning and talent review processes.
Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to align HR strategies to operational objectives.
Experience supporting geographically dispersed workforces.
Experience with Workday and JD Edwards is considered an asset.
Valid Ontario Driver's License and satisfactory Driver's Abstract

Expected Base Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity and work location.
