Job details

Job type: Full-time
Experience: 0–10 years of relevant experience in mechanical construction, industrial construction, field engineering, project coordination, or a related role.
Posting language: English
Posted: Nov 3, 2026

Original job description

Come help build the future, where our work makes the world work!

Vacancy Status: This is an evergreen posting intended to proactively identify and connect with talent for ongoing and future opportunities.

What You’ll Do

Coordinate mechanical construction activities from a St. John’s base, reporting to the assigned Project Manager and coordinating daily field priorities with the Site Superintendent.

Responsibilities and authority reflect experience, qualifications, and project needs: graduates receive guidance; experienced candidates may own assigned mechanical work packages, subcontractor coordination, progress reporting, and cost tracking.

Responsibilities will include:

Coordinate assigned mechanical work, including process and utility piping, pumps, rotating and static equipment, tanks, valves, supports, and associated mechanical systems, in accordance with project requirements and delegated authority.
Review mechanical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, specifications, vendor documentation, and existing site conditions; identify discrepancies, installation constraints, and constructability issues and coordinate requests for information (RFIs) with the project team and responsible designers.
Prepare and update assigned work plans, installation sequences, mechanical work packages, and look-ahead schedules with site supervision; identify constraints, monitor progress, and flag potential delays.
Coordinate mechanical subcontractors, suppliers, equipment vendors, testing agencies, and specialist service providers to align field activities and resolve issues. Direct supervision of personnel applies only where specifically assigned.
Coordinate mechanical interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and controls teams, including foundations, equipment supports, penetrations, access requirements, utility connections, and installation sequencing.
Prepare quantity takeoffs and material requirements; coordinate assigned procurement activities, technical submittals, delivery tracking, and the availability of piping, equipment, components, and installation materials.
Coordinate receiving inspections, storage, preservation, and handling requirements for mechanical equipment and materials in accordance with approved project requirements and manufacturer instructions.
Track installed quantities, labour and equipment usage, productivity, and progress; maintain daily reports and field records and contribute to resource forecasts and project cost reporting.
Support progress claims, subcontractor payment reviews, and change tracking; document extra work and potential cost or schedule impacts for review by project management.
Coordinate assigned inspections and testing, including equipment installation checks, alignment verification, welding inspections, nondestructive examination, pressure and leak testing, and flushing or cleaning activities, as applicable. Maintain inspection and test records and track deficiencies and corrective actions with the responsible personnel.
Carry out assigned field measurements and installation checks to verify equipment locations, piping arrangements, clearances, and construction against approved drawings, specifications, and vendor requirements.
Support mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities under approved procedures and the direction of designated leads; coordinate system walkdowns, deficiency lists, test documentation, and turnover readiness.
Follow company, client, and site-specific health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) requirements; participate in planning and inspections, promptly report and escalate hazards and nonconformances, and follow up on assigned actions. Coordinate assigned work within applicable permit, isolation, and energy-control procedures.
Maintain current drawings, RFIs, submittals, photographs, and project records; track meeting actions and coordinate assigned redline drawings, as-built documentation, equipment records, turnover packages, and closeout records.
Communicate field priorities and outstanding issues clearly, and build professional working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, Indigenous partners, and other stakeholders.
Provide guidance and support to students and junior personnel where assigned, appropriate to experience and under the direction of project management and site supervision.

What We’re Looking For

We’re excited to meet candidates who have:

A degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and practical mechanical construction experience.
0–10 years of relevant experience in mechanical construction, industrial construction, field engineering, project coordination, or a related role. New graduates are welcome; co-op and work-term experience is an asset.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment layouts, specifications, and vendor documentation, appropriate to your experience level.
Knowledge of mechanical construction methods, piping and equipment installation, material quantities, scheduling, inspection and testing, and quality requirements appropriate to your experience level.
Familiarity with applicable mechanical and piping codes, standards, and project specifications, with the ability to identify when clarification or specialist input is required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word. Experience with AutoCAD, 3D model review tools, scheduling, estimating, or project management software is an asset.
Experience with mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, or system turnover is an asset.
A strong commitment to HSEQ, with the ability to learn and follow company, client, and site-specific procedures and exercise sound judgment when escalating issues.
Reliability, attention to detail, and sound judgment; clear communication, effective teamwork, and the ability to organize priorities, adapt to changing conditions, and follow actions through to completion.
A valid driver’s licence and the ability to meet project, client, and remote-site access requirements.

Travel & Working Conditions

Must be willing and able to travel to project sites and work away from St. John’s for extended periods, including assignments in remote locations and camp-based environments.
Must be willing and able to work extended shifts, rotational schedules, weekends, and night shifts as required by project needs.
This is a field-oriented role involving work in active construction and industrial environments, including outdoor work in varying weather and terrain, with office and site duties determined by the assignment.
