POSITION: MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and technical oversight of mechanical maintenance activities at Greenfire’s SAGD central processing facilities (CPFs), well pads and associated infrastructure. The position ensures that preventive, corrective and emergent work on rotating and stationary equipment is executed safely, efficiently and to applicable technical standards. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance Planning, Reliability, Supply Chain and third-party service providers, the Supervisor assigns work, manages field execution, addresses equipment issues and supports asset reliability, regulatory compliance and cost-conscious maintenance delivery.

This is a full-time, permanent position based out of Greenfire Resources Fort McMurray Production Facility based on a 7/7 or 14/14 rotation.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Mechanical Maintenance Execution & Equipment Reliability

  • Lead, direct and monitor daily mechanical maintenance work performed by employees and contractors across plant and well-pad facilities; confirm clear priorities, adequate supervision and quality of execution.
  • Oversee inspection, troubleshooting, repair, installation and replacement of pumps, compressors, mechanical seals, gearboxes, bearings, valves, piping, pressure equipment, heat exchangers and related mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate mechanical work on steam-generation and water-treatment systems with Operations, Power Engineering personnel and authorized inspectors or specialists, as applicable.
  • Provide technical guidance on equipment failures; contribute to root-cause investigations, corrective actions, reliability improvements and repeat-failure prevention.
  • Conduct job-site walkdowns; verify scope, safe access, isolation needs, tooling, lifting requirements and readiness before execution; inspect completed work and support return to service.
  • Ensure repairs, installations, pressure-system work and changes are reviewed and executed in accordance with approved engineering requirements, applicable codes and Company procedures.

Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership through field presence, coaching, hazard identification, intervention and incident/near-miss follow-up.
  • Ensure work complies with Greenfire’s permit-to-work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), isolation verification, hazard assessments (FLHA), confined space, hot work, line breaking, lifting and other applicable safe-work requirements.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations and other work groups to manage simultaneous operations (SIMOPS), operating constraints and safe equipment handover.
  • Support compliance with applicable Alberta occupational health and safety requirements, ABSA requirements, pressure-equipment and pressure-piping requirements, and relevant manufacturer and engineering standards.
  • Ensure deficiencies, leaks, mechanical-integrity risks and environmental concerns are promptly escalated and addressed within approved processes.

Operations and Maintenance Service Support

  • Coordinate approved general field services for Operations and Maintenance, including fuel and other contracted field services, sourcing support, scheduling, mobilization and provider follow-up.
  • Act as a central point of contact for service requests and help ensure requirements are defined, assigned, scheduled and completed.
  • Support prioritization of service needs based on operational urgency, safety, equipment availability and service-provider capacity.
  • Maintain clear communication among Operations, Maintenance, SCM and suppliers to minimize service gaps, delays and avoidable downtime.
  • Provide reasonable coordination support outside regular hours only when requested for exceptional, unforeseen emergencies affecting safety or critical operations, in accordance with applicable employment terms and Company policy. This is not a standing 24-hour on-call assignment.

People Leadership & Contractor Management

  • Supervise, coach and develop mechanical trades personnel; establish daily assignments, expectations, safe work practices and accountability for work quality.
  • Coordinate staffing, shift coverage, vacation, overtime and contractor resources in collaboration with Maintenance management and Company policies.
  • Complete performance feedback and reviews, identify training requirements and support apprenticeships, competency development and succession planning as applicable.
  • Direct and monitor third-party mechanical contractors and vendors; verify qualifications, scope, mobilization, productivity, field documentation and quality of deliverables.
  • Promote constructive relationships with Operations, Steam Chiefs, technical teams, Supply Chain and project personnel to resolve conflicts and maintain production priorities.

Work Management, Planning & Maximo

  • Partner with planners and schedulers to prioritize corrective and preventive maintenance, develop executable work scopes, establish resource estimates and align work with operating windows.
  • Review work packages for materials, critical spares, labour, permits, tools, equipment, vendor support and technical information before scheduling.
  • Use Maximo to review work orders, confirm execution status, capture labour and failure information, maintain equipment history and ensure timely, accurate work-order closeout.
  • Identify preventive-maintenance and predictive-monitoring improvements, equipment data gaps, critical spare requirements and opportunities to improve work-management processes.
  • Participate in shutdowns and turnarounds, including scope development, job sequencing, contractor oversight, execution tracking and post-event lessons learned.

Cost, Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor maintenance labour, overtime, consumables and contractor expenditures against approved plans; identify schedule and cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain on requisitions, purchase-order requirements, material readiness, service tickets and invoice validation within delegated approval authority.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC), project constructability reviews, commissioning, system walkdowns, equipment acceptance and mechanical handover to Operations.
  • Track and communicate equipment availability, backlog risks, schedule compliance, recurring failures and other relevant maintenance performance indicators.
  • Identify practical improvements to mechanical integrity, safe execution, productivity, standardization and long-term equipment reliability; perform related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SET:

  • Red Seal Journeyperson certification in an applicable mechanical trade (e.g., Millwright or Steamfitter-Pipefitter); an equivalent combination of relevant technical education and significant SAGD mechanical-maintenance experience may be considered.
  • Minimum ten years of relevant industrial mechanical maintenance experience, including demonstrated experience leading crews or contractors; supervisory experience in SAGD, heavy oil or other high-temperature/high-pressure processing facilities is strongly preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of rotating and stationary equipment, pressure piping, mechanical isolation, equipment troubleshooting and maintenance execution in operating facilities.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta OHS requirements, ABSA-regulated equipment and applicable mechanical/pressure-system codes within the scope of the role.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems, preferably IBM Maximo, and sound understanding of preventive maintenance, work orders, maintenance planning and equipment history.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary field activity, read mechanical drawings and P&IDs, assess hazards and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong judgment, coaching, prioritization, cost awareness, analytical and troubleshooting skills; demonstrated commitment to safe, reliable operations.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to meet applicable site access and field work requirements.
  • Advanced education such as MMP (Maintenance Management Professional) or CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) highly desired
