The company supports electrical, power utility, railway, pipeline, and telecommunications sectors across Northern Ontario and operates one of the region’s largest mechanical shops and heavy-equipment fleets. Centrally located, Gridlink can deploy quickly to projects across Canada and the Midwestern United States for installation, maintenance, and repair. A dedicated management team, working closely with members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, ensures strong technical expertise and a rigorous focus on safety and efficiency. The role involves working with heavy equipment, interpreting line diagrams and technical drawings, using specialized tools to test and verify system integrity, and collaborating with crews, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects on time. Powerline Technicians also participate in safety meetings, follow Gridlink’s health and safety policies, maintain accurate work documentation, and may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and respond to emergency call-outs in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

Formal powerline technician training or apprenticeship completion, with experience in electrical power distribution and transmission line work.
Strong technical skills in line construction, maintenance, and repair, including climbing, rigging, and working at heights safely.
Knowledge of electrical safety codes, utility standards, and safe work practices, with a demonstrated commitment to safety and risk mitigation.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, line diagrams, and technical documentation, and use related instruments and tools accurately.
Experience operating or working around heavy equipment and vehicles typically used in utility infrastructure projects.
Effective teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with crews, supervisors, and contractors in field environments.
Good physical fitness and stamina, with the ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions and respond to emergency call-outs.
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; Class DZ or equivalent license is an asset.
IBEW membership or eligibility, and prior experience in utility or infrastructure sectors such as electrical, railway, pipeline, or telecommunications is an asset.
