The Role

GrizzlyTrek is hiring third year apprentice electricians in Red Deer to join our valued client's team on commercial and industrial electrical work across central Alberta. Pay is $28.00 an hour, the schedule is Monday to Friday with overtime, and your hours are tracked and signed off toward your fourth period and your Red Seal.
The work runs out of Red Deer: new commercial construction, plant and shop maintenance, service upgrades and shutdown support. You work under journeyman supervision on conduit and cable tray, terminations, motor controls, panels and lighting. No camp, no rotation, and you are home every night.

What You'll Do

  • Install conduit, cable tray and wire in commercial and industrial buildings under journeyman supervision
  • Bend and run EMT and rigid conduit, pull cable, and terminate devices, panels and motor connections
  • Install and connect lighting, receptacles, disconnects, starters and motor control equipment
  • Work from electrical drawings, panel schedules and single line diagrams
  • Assist with troubleshooting, testing and commissioning of circuits and equipment
  • Complete lockout and tagout, FLHAs and hazard assessments before work starts
  • Keep tools, materials and the work area organized, and log your apprenticeship hours

What You Bring

  • Third year (third period) apprentice electrician, registered and in good standing with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training
  • Technical training periods completed and passed to date, with a record of your hours
  • Solid conduit bending, cable pulling and termination ability, and comfortable working from drawings
  • Own hand tools, CSA approved safety boots, and a valid Class 5 licence with reliable transportation
  • Current tickets: CSTS-2020 or PST, Standard First Aid with CPR, and Fall Protection
  • Able to work at heights on ladders and lifts, and to lift up to 50 lbs through a full shift

Nice to Have

  • Industrial or plant experience: motor controls, instrumentation, or shutdown work
  • Aerial work platform, scissor lift or forklift tickets
  • H2S Alive, and a current oil and gas site orientation on file

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Successful completion of Alcohol and Drug Screening
  • Successful completion of comprehensive Fitness-to-Work Assessment. This assessment is job-related, focusing on the physical demands and safety sensitive nature of the work, and is conducted in accordance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and the Alberta Human Rights Act. The assessment will cover:
    • Health History Review: A thorough examination of the candidate's health background.
    • Pre-Medical Evaluation: Measurements such as height, weight, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
    • Musculoskeletal Examination: A head-to-toe assessment to identify any limitations or concerns related to physical health.
    • Critical Strength and Mobility Test: A series of tasks assessing lifting, carrying, and positional abilities aligned with the job's physical demands (up to 50 lbs).
  • Worker to provide proof of apprenticeship registration and standing with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training, valid safety training tickets, a valid driver's licence, and CSA approved safety boots (minimum 6 inch, fully laceable)
Employment is conditional upon successfully meeting all of the pre-employment requirements listed above.

Work Environment

  • Commercial and industrial sites across central Alberta, working out of Red Deer, home every night
  • Monday to Friday day shifts with overtime, plus occasional shutdown or weekend work
  • Work at heights on ladders, scaffolds and aerial lifts
  • Physical work: lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling and overhead work through a full shift
  • Indoor and outdoor work in all weather, in active construction areas and operating plants

Why Apprentices Take This Job

$28.00 an hour at third year, posted up front, so you know what the seat pays before you sit down for the interview. Your hours get tracked and signed off, so you finish your fourth period and write your Red Seal instead of stalling out one year short. The work is real electrical work under journeymen who will teach you: conduit, terminations, motor control and troubleshooting, not two years of digging trench. Required orientations and assessments are paid at $18.00 an hour. And it is Red Deer work, Monday to Friday, home every night, no camp and no rotation.
Pay is a gross hourly rate before deductions.

What We Offer

  • Overtime after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week
  • Apprenticeship hours tracked and signed off toward your fourth period and Red Seal
  • Required orientations and assessments paid at $18.00 per hour
  • Life insurance plus AD&D with critical illness and cancer coverage
  • Extended health and dental: drugs, hospital, vision, paramedical including mental health, and child orthodontics
  • Travel insurance, plus ongoing training and career development support
