The Micmac Nation of Gespeg is looking for a Communications Director to join its team. Are you looking for a new challenge and considering relocating to our beautiful Gaspe region (Gespeg), in the heart of the Gaspesie?

The Communications Director plays a key role in supporting the communication goals of the Micmac Nation of Gespeg by creating clear, and engaging communications that reflect the voice and values of the Mi'gmaq Nation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and distribute newsletters and updates that reflect the vision, actions, and priorities of the Micmac Nation of Gespeg.
Manage and update content for the website and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram).
Create culturally sensitive and community-centered content including interviews, video scripts, etc.
Assist in the planning and promotion of community engagement events, meetings, and public gatherings.
Monitor media coverage and prepare summaries for leadership.
Maintain a media contact list and coordinate communications with regional partners and news outlets.
Ensure that all communication materials reflect the values, culture, and priorities of the Mi’gmaq Nation.
Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field or
1–3 years of relevant experience in a communications, media, or public relations role.
Strong writing and storytelling skills, with an understanding of Indigenous issues and perspectives.
Experience using digital platforms, CMS (like WordPress), and social media tools.
Familiarity with design software (e.g., Canva or Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.
Fluency in both French and English, spoken and written, is a requirement of the position.
Ability to work collaboratively with respect for traditional knowledge and community processes.

Le(la) Directeur(trice) des communications joue un rôle clé dans le soutien des objectifs de communication de la Nation Micmac de Gespeg en créant des messages clairs, engageants et porteurs de sens, qui reflètent la voix et les valeurs de la Nation Mi'gmaq.

RESPONSABILITÉS PRINCIPALES

Élaborer et diffuser des bulletins d'information et des mises à jour reflétant la vision, les actions et les priorités de la Nation Micmac de Gespeg.
Gérer et mettre à jour le contenu du site web et des plateformes de médias sociaux (par ex. Facebook, Instagram).
Créer du contenu culturellementsensible et centré sur la communauté, incluant des entrevues, des scripts vidéo, etc.
Participer à la planification et à la promotion des événements communautaires, des réunions et des rassemblements publics.
Surveiller la couverture médiatique et préparer des résumés à l'intention des dirigeants.
Maintenir une liste de contacts médiatiques et coordonner les communications avec les partenaires régionaux et les médias.
S'assurer que tous les supports de communication reflètent les valeurs, la culture et les priorités de la Nation Mi'gmaq.
Effectuer toute autre tâche connexe liée aux fonctions du poste.

QUALIFICATIONS

Diplôme ou certificat en communications, relations publiques, journalisme ou domaine connexe ou
1 à 3 ans d'expérience pertinente dans un rôle en communication, en médias ou en relations publiques.
Excellentes compétences en rédaction et en narration, avec une compréhension des enjeux et perspectives autochtones.
Expérience avec les plateformes numériques, les systèmes de gestion de contenu (comme WordPress) et les outils de médias sociaux.
La connaissance des logiciels de design (ex. : Canva ou Adobe Creative Suite) est un atout.
La maîtrise du français et de l’anglais, à l’oral et à l’écrit, est une exigence du poste.
Capacité à travailler en collaboration dans le respect dessavoirs traditionnels et des processus communautaires.

QUALITÉS PERSONNELLES

Communicateur(trice) respectueux(se) avec une sensibilité culturelle.
Solides compétences en organisation et en gestion du temps.
