Original job description

About Guide Engineering Ltd.

Guide Engineering Ltd. is a well-established civil engineering firm rooted in Chilliwack, British Columbia. We specialize in civil infrastructure, drainage design, and site servicing for projects throughout the Fraser Valley. As a small, close-knit team, we take pride in delivering quality work while fostering a collaborative environment where every team member's contribution matters. Our principal, Mahyar Niroumand, P.Eng., believes in direct mentorship and investing in professionals who share our commitment to excellence and community.

We're looking for team members who see Chilliwack not just as a location, but as home - professionals who want to build their careers alongside us and contribute to the infrastructure that shapes our region.

The Role

We're seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Technologist to join our team as a key technical contributor. This role offers significant autonomy and responsibility, working directly with our principal engineer on municipal infrastructure projects. You'll be instrumental in taking projects from concept through to construction, with opportunities to grow into project coordination and client-facing responsibilities.

This position is ideal for an experienced technologist who values independence, wants to expand their skill set beyond drafting, and is ready to become an integral part of a growing local firm.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D for drainage, site servicing, and municipal infrastructure projects
Conduct field inspections and site visits with minimal supervision, documenting conditions and coordinating with contractors
Perform engineering analysis and calculations to support design decisions
Coordinate project deliverables and communicate with clients, municipalities, and consultants
Review and check technical drawings for accuracy and compliance with standards
Support project management activities including scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
Mentor junior staff as our team grows

Required Qualifications

Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized Canadian institution
Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) certification or eligibility
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in civil engineering design and construction, with demonstrated expertise in municipal infrastructure
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D - you should be comfortable creating complex grading plans, utility designs, and construction drawings independently
Proven track record of conducting site inspections and field reviews
Valid BC Driver's License and reliable transportation
Strong foundation in BC Building Code, municipal design standards, and engineering best practices
Demonstrated stability in previous positions with a commitment to professional growth

Nice to Have

Project coordination or management experience
Familiarity with Chilliwack and Fraser Valley development processes
Experience with stormwater management design
Construction administration background
Community involvement in Chilliwack or surrounding areas

What We Offer

Competitive salary range of $70,000 to $100,000 annually, based on experience and demonstrated capabilities
Direct mentorship and professional development under a Professional Engineer
Significant autonomy and the opportunity to take ownership of projects
Exposure to diverse project types and the chance to expand your expertise
A stable, supportive work environment where your contributions directly impact our success
Opportunities for advancement as our firm grows
The chance to work on projects that shape your own community

How to Apply

If you're an experienced civil technologist looking to invest in a long-term career with a respected local firm, we'd love to hear from you. Please submit your resume, cover letter, and a portfolio or examples of Civil 3D work you've completed. In your cover letter, tell us about your connection to the Fraser Valley and what you're looking for in your next career move.

Guide Engineering Ltd. is committed to building a team that reflects the community we serve. We encourage applications from qualified candidates who are established in or committed to making the Chilliwack area their long-term home.
