SHOP FOREMAN / SHOP MANAGER

Guide Valve Limited | Vaughan, Ontario | Full-Time, On-Site

Position Summary

Guide Valve Limited is seeking an experienced, hands-on Shop Foreman / Shop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Vaughan, Ontario facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising shop employees, coordinating daily workflow, overseeing inventory, shipping and receiving, maintaining a safe and organized workplace, and ensuring work is completed efficiently and in accordance with company quality and safety requirements.

We are looking for a strong and dependable leader with experience in an industrial valve, flow control, oil and gas, manufacturing, or related industrial environment. The ideal candidate will have solid technical and operational knowledge combined with the ability to effectively manage, train, and hold employees accountable.

A strong understanding of Ontario workplace health and safety requirements, Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) practices, crane operation, forklift operation, and industrial shop safety is important for this role.

Key Responsibilities – Shop Management & Supervision

· Oversee and coordinate the daily activities and workflow of shop employees.

· Assign and prioritize work based on production, project, shipping, and customer requirements.

· Provide hands-on leadership, direction, training, and support to shop personnel.

· Monitor employee performance, productivity, attendance, quality of work, and compliance with company procedures.

· Ensure employees understand their responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations.

· Promote a professional, respectful, productive, and team-oriented shop environment.

· Address day-to-day operational and personnel issues and escalate concerns to management when required.

· Identify staffing, training, equipment, safety, or workflow concerns.

· Coordinate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, and Management to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.

Valve & Technical Operations

· Oversee shop activities involving industrial valves, valve components, actuators, and related equipment.

· Ensure employees follow applicable work instructions, drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

· Coordinate the movement of valves, components, and materials through the shop.

· Identify technical or quality concerns and work with Engineering and Quality personnel to resolve them.

· Ensure proper handling, storage, and protection of valves, components, and customer or company-owned materials.

Inventory, Shipping & Receiving

· Oversee the receiving, storage, organization, tracking, and issuing of inventory.

· Maintain accurate inventory records and participate in inventory counts and reconciliation.

· Ensure valves, components, parts, and materials are properly identified, labelled, stored, and accounted for.

· Investigate and assist in resolving inventory discrepancies.

· Oversee incoming and outgoing shipments.

· Verify materials against purchase orders, packing slips, shipping documentation, and other applicable records.

· Coordinate packaging and shipment of valves, parts, and equipment.

· Ensure products are appropriately packaged and protected for transportation.

· Coordinate with freight companies, couriers, suppliers, and internal departments.

· Address damaged goods, shortages, shipping discrepancies, and receiving issues.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

· Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture throughout the shop.

· Ensure shop employees follow company health and safety policies, procedures, safe work practices, and applicable Ontario workplace safety requirements.

· Identify and address workplace hazards and unsafe working conditions.

· Conduct or participate in workplace inspections, safety meetings, incident reviews, and corrective actions as required.

· Ensure employees are appropriately trained before operating shop equipment and machinery.

· Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Maintain safe and organized work areas, aisles, storage areas, loading areas, and equipment.

· Support and participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities.

· Work collaboratively with JHSC members and management to identify hazards and implement appropriate corrective measures.

· Assist with health and safety training, documentation, inspections, and follow-up activities.

· Ensure safe operation of forklifts, overhead cranes, lifting devices, and material-handling equipment.

· Ensure appropriate pre-use inspections and safety procedures are followed for shop equipment.

· Immediately report and appropriately address workplace incidents, injuries, hazards, or safety concerns.

Qualifications & Experience

· Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial shop, valve, flow control, oil and gas, manufacturing, warehouse, or related industrial environment.

· Previous experience as a Shop Foreman, Shop Manager, Shop Supervisor, Warehouse Manager, or similar leadership position.

· Industrial valve experience strongly preferred.

· Experience with industrial valves, actuators, valve components, piping products, or related flow-control equipment is a strong asset.

· Demonstrated experience supervising and managing shop employees.

· Strong experience with inventory control, shipping, receiving, warehousing, and material handling.

· Strong working knowledge of workplace health and safety practices in an industrial environment.

· Knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety requirements and workplace responsibilities.

· Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) knowledge and/or certification/training is strongly preferred.

· Previous experience participating as a JHSC member is considered a strong asset.

· Valid forklift certification/licence and practical forklift operating experience required.

· Experience safely operating overhead cranes and lifting equipment required.

· Knowledge of safe lifting, rigging, and material-handling practices.

· Ability to recognize workplace hazards and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.

· Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to effectively train, direct, and hold employees accountable while maintaining a respectful workplace.

· Comfortable working hands-on in the shop when required.

· Computer literacy and experience with inventory, ERP, warehouse, or similar systems is an asset.

Guide Valve Limited is looking for someone who will take ownership of the shop and lead by example.

The ideal candidate is an experienced industrial shop leader who understands that the position involves more than assigning work. This person will be responsible for maintaining organization, accountability, inventory control, shipping and receiving, safety, productivity, and effective supervision of shop employees.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable being present and hands-on in the shop, understands industrial equipment and safe work practices, and can identify and address issues before they become larger problems.

The successful candidate should be a strong people manager who can communicate clearly, train employees, maintain standards, enforce company policies and safety requirements, and create a professional and productive shop environment.
