MAKE AN IMPACT THAT MATTERS
HH Angus is expanding its Energy Infrastructure Consulting team. The team helps clients answer three practical questions: where to act first, what to fund and how to develop a solution into a project.
We are seeking an Energy Infrastructure Analyst who can combine energy, financial and commercial analysis with project delivery and pursuit support. The role will help turn early client questions into decision analysis, clear business cases and viable capital projects.
This is an advisory and project development role focused on buildings, campuses, central utility plants, district energy systems and decarbonization programs. The analyst will work closely with engineers, project managers and senior advisors, while progressively taking ownership of defined analytical workstreams.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Develop energy, carbon and financial models for buildings, campuses, central utility plants and district energy systems.
- Analyze utility data, rate structures, contracts, carbon costs and operating expenses to establish baselines and forecast long-term costs.
- Build business cases using lifecycle costs, net present value, return on investment, payback and other relevant measures.
- Test how changes in rates, capital costs, performance, timing, incentives and financing affect the results.
- Develop early-stage capital and operating cost estimates using project data, market benchmarks and supplier information.
- Work with engineers and cost consultants when detailed estimates are needed.
- Compare options based on cost, carbon, resilience, constructability, operational risk, disruption and long-term value.
- Identify incentives, funding, procurement requirements and commercial terms that affect viability.
- Support portfolio screening, energy strategies, master plans, feasibility studies, audits, electrification and renewable energy studies, district energy assessments and system optimization.
- Support projects from feasibility and business-case development through design review, procurement and compliance, as required.
- Coordinate input from engineering, controls, cost consulting and other specialists.
- Maintain project assumptions, data requests, option comparisons, risks and action items.
- Turn analysis into clear recommendations, decision criteria and next steps, including measurable outcomes and practical ways to verify results.
- Prepare client briefings using facility information, capital priorities, energy use, market conditions and known constraints.
- Support proposals, work plans, schedules, fees and presentations, and coordinate submission and contract inputs with internal teams.
- Research prospective clients, funding programs, policy changes and emerging opportunities. Help account teams identify where Energy Infrastructure Consulting services could support existing clients.
- Track qualified opportunities, proposal status, relationship owners, next steps, expected award dates and potential revenue.
- Prepare concise reports, executive summaries, dashboards, business cases and presentations. With support from senior staff, present findings and recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
- Develop reusable scopes, models, checklists and templates, and contribute to case studies, service descriptions, training materials and improvements to analytical tools, cost data and quality processes.
- Other duties as required.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, energy systems, sustainability, finance, economics, business administration or a related field.
- 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in energy consulting, engineering consulting, infrastructure advisory, sustainability, project development, cost analysis or financial analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to complete analytical assignments with limited supervision and to seek direction when assumptions, scope or risks are unclear.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including scenario analysis, structured financial models and clear documentation of assumptions.
- A practical understanding of building energy systems, HVAC, central plants, electrification, renewable energy, thermal networks or district energy.
- Experience reviewing utility data and developing energy, cost or carbon baselines.
- Familiarity with lifecycle costing, capital cost estimating and infrastructure investment analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical information and explain it clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Strong writing, organization, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage several assignments and priorities in a consulting environment.
- Experience preparing consulting proposals, feasibility studies, options analyses or business cases is an asset.
- Experience with RETScreen, building energy modelling software, Power BI, data visualization tools or other analytical platforms is an asset.
