Original job description

As a member of the healthcare team on M2, the Registered Practical Nurse assesses and provides nursing care to meet the needs of mostly senior patients suffering from orthopedic conditions and works collaboratively with Registered Nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize the functional goals of patients.

Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
Demonstrated knowledge of Rehabilitation Nursing.
Knowledge of outcome measurement, eg. Functional Independence Measure
Familiar with a Primary Nursing Model of Care
Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary care and a nursing professional practice model
Current BCLS certification
Recent clinical experience (within 2 years) with a rehabilitation, geriatric, surgical or orthopedic patient population
Experience and skill in pain management, providing enteral and parenteral nutrition, complex wound care and vascular access.
Successful completion of the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) WORKSHOP
Demonstrated excellent communication (written and verbal), teamwork, problem-solving, time management, organization and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated computer skills including Meditech
Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well independently
Demonstrated knowledge of TLC protocols (transfer/lifts for caregivers)
Demonstrated commitment to professional development

Responsibilities

The Registered Practical Nurse provides direct nursing care to senior patients with orthopedic conditions on the M2 unit. They work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to optimize patient functional goals.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario and possess recent clinical experience in rehabilitation, geriatrics, or orthopedics. Additional requirements include BCLS certification and completion of the Gentle Persuasive Approach workshop.
