Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and motivated
Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and commissioning of building automation systems across a diverse portfolio of facilities. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with HVAC controls, DDC systems, system integration, energy management, and BAS troubleshooting.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring building systems operate efficiently, reliably, and safely while supporting occupant comfort and energy conservation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on building automation systems and associated HVAC equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve BAS-related issues independently and in collaboration with mechanical contractors, electricians, and facility staff.
- Diagnose control system faults, communication failures, sensor issues, and equipment malfunctions.
- Install, program, configure, and commission building automation controllers and field devices.
- Modify and optimize control sequences to improve system performance, occupant comfort, and energy efficiency.
- Monitor building systems and investigate alarms, trends, and operational anomalies.
- Coordinate with internal staff and external contractors during system upgrades, retrofits, and capital projects.
- Generate service reports documenting findings, corrective actions, and recommendations.
- Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.
- Prepare estimates and recommendations for control system improvements and equipment replacements.
- Assist with integration of HVAC, lighting, energy management, and other building systems.
- Maintain accurate records of system configurations, programming changes, drawings, and network architecture.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry standards, and manufacturer software platforms.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Building Systems Technology, Building Automation Systems Technology, or a related field.
Experience
- Equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered
The Candidate Will Possess
- Minimum 10 years of experience working with Building Automation Systems.
- Demonstrated experience servicing, programming, and commissioning BAS/DDC systems.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment and control strategies.
- Experience working with systems such as:
- Johnson Controls Metasys
- Honeywell
- Automated Logic
- Siemens
- Delta Controls
- Similar industry platforms
Technical Knowledge
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Direct Digital Controls (DDC)
- HVAC controls and mechanical systems
- Network communications and protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks
- Controller programming and graphical interface development
- Energy management and optimization strategies
- Electrical and electronic troubleshooting
- System commissioning and performance verification
