We're looking for a Hardware Technician to hand-assemble the miniature transmissions and housings inside every haptic device we ship.
About Haply
Haply Robotics builds the world's most precise haptic devices, deployed in research labs, industrial integration projects, and production environments where "good" and "right" are measured in milliseconds and millinewtons. As robots and autonomous systems grow more capable, humans still need intuitive ways to teach, guide, and supervise physical tasks, and Haply builds the platform that lets people do that through touch and motion.
Since 2018, we've built precision haptic controllers that let people and machines feel and respond to the physical world with microscopic precision. We've raised over $20 million CAD from leading venture and strategic investors, and we're partnering across robotics and industrial automation to bring touch and control into physical AI, building toward a leading, privately-valued Canadian company with real venture-scale upside for those who join us early.
About the Role
As a Hardware Technician, you'll work hands-on with Haply's hardware, taking assigned builds from kitted parts to a finished, QC-passed unit. You'll assemble miniature transmissions and housings by hand, modify components for fit, support basic PCB integration, and inspect assemblies against spec before they move on.
You'll also own the day-to-day discipline around your builds: logging build time and task status in Odoo, keeping your workstation, tools and jigs in working order, spotting issues early, and giving feedback on assembly steps and processes. The goal in your first 3–6 months is to get fully trained on the assembly process and build units independently at the target rate.
What You'll Do
- Precision assembly: Assemble miniature transmissions and housings by hand, using jigs, glues and hand tools.
- Component modification: Modify parts for fit with a drill press and Dremel, and do basic PCB integration.
- Quality checks: Inspect assemblies against spec before they move on, and flag defects or out-of-tolerance parts.
- Operations and reporting: Log build time and task status daily in Odoo, and report technical inconsistencies to the Lead Tech.
- Tools and inventory: Maintain shop tools and jigs, track consumables and parts stock, and flag reorder needs.
- Process improvement: Give feedback on assembly steps, jigs and instructions to cut build time and rework.
- Safety and upkeep: Keep the workspace organized to "Cleanroom Lite" standard and follow shop safety rules strictly.
What You'll Own Independently
- Your assigned builds from kitted parts to a finished, QC-passed unit.
- Accurate daily time and task logging in Odoo.
- Keeping your workstation, tools and jigs clean and in working order.
- Spotting and escalating build issues without waiting to be asked.
Your First 3–6 Months
- Get fully trained on the assembly process and build units independently at the target rate.
- KPI: Manufacturing Throughput
What We're Looking For
- 3 years hands-on in a shop or assembly environment.
- Basic power tools, including a drill press and rotary tool (Dremel).
- Precision hand tools (iFixit-style kits).
- Very good manual coordination and a steady hand for small, repetitive work.
- Disciplined about logging time and tasks.
- Fluent in English and French.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Hands-on fabrication or assembly work, such as wood or metal shops, bike shops or production lines.
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Able to work on-site in Montreal full-time.
- Fine-motor precision (tested with a hands-on assembly exercise).
- Willing to log time and tasks daily and accurately.
- Passes a criminal record check or security screening.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with soldering and soldered connections.
- Familiarity with 3D printing processes, including both SLA and FDM methods.
- Some exposure to basic lathe operation and machining.
- Working knowledge of Odoo or another ERP or inventory management system.
- Background in electronics, electromechanical assembly, robotics, or medical-device assembly work.
- Experience in any production environment that follows documented QC procedures.
- A trade certificate or formal technical training (DEP/DEC, mechanics, or engineering technology).
- Hands-on experience designing, building, or improving assembly jigs.
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings.
What's Great in the Job?
- Take full ownership of your builds, from kitted parts to a finished, QC-passed unit.
- Get your hands on precision assembly work every day, tools, jigs, and electromechanical components that actually matter.
- Grow from learning the ropes to building units independently at target rate, with real skill progression built into the role.
- Have a direct voice in how assembly steps, jigs, and instructions evolve, your feedback actually changes the process.
- Be the last line of defense on quality, catching issues before they ever leave your station.
Why Join
- Work hands-on with Haply's precision hardware and assembly processes.
- Own assigned builds from kitted parts to a finished, QC-passed unit.
- Take ownership of quality and help identify build issues early.
- Help improve assembly steps, jigs and instructions to reduce build time and rework.
