BIM Specialist (Geomatics and Facility Records)

ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client, an established Ottawa-based Engineering & Surveying firm, is hiring a BIM Specialist to build and maintain the digital record of a federal government site. You will capture existing buildings in the field, convert that data into accurate 3D models and 2D drawings, keep those records current as renovation and maintenance work changes the spaces, and prepare layouts to support future buildings planned for the same site.
This is a hands-on, independent role. You will be based on site rather than in an office, working alongside the facility management team and the trades who operate and maintain the buildings.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Building models and drawings
- Build and maintain 3D models (Revit, BricsCAD BIM) and 2D CAD drawings of site buildings to the client's technical standards
- Update models and drawings as construction, renovation and maintenance work changes existing buildings
- Prepare layouts and base drawings to support planning for future buildings on the site
- Produce General Floor Plans, Area Measurement drawings and Fire Evacuation Plans
- Maintain engineering site drawings and the civil site data record
- Run all CAD output through the client's QC checker and resolve errors before submission
- Produce a monthly spatial change report
Field capture
- Capture building interiors and exteriors using laser measurement tools and scanning
- Complete topographic survey of site features, buildings, utilities and infrastructure
- Locate and record changes as work happens on site
- Plan and schedule site validation work, including advance notice to the client
- Support survey control work (traverse, GNSS, digital levelling), with a licensed surveyor supporting control and legal work
Asset and document records
- Maintain an equipment registry with unique IDs linked to the spatial data
- File engineering documents against the correct assets
WHAT YOU BRING
Security and eligibility (mandatory)
- Canadian citizenship
- Active Government of Canada SECRET clearance strongly preferred. At minimum, you must be able to obtain and maintain it, which requires a verifiable ten-year residence and employment history. Extended periods outside Canada may prevent clearance.
- Valid Ontario G licence and reliable transportation
Education and experience
- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and/or Architectural Technology
- C.Tech or C.E.T. certification through an accredited provincial association
- 5+ years using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map, Civil 3D and Revit to create, edit, convert and produce spatial data, including floor plans
- 5+ years in 3D model management and development using Revit and BricsCAD BIM
- 5+ years in field data collection, including survey control networks
- 2+ years collecting building field data with laser measurement tools
- 2+ years in a multi-disciplinary engineering or technical environment
- Copies of all licences and certifications are required on file before start
Communication
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. You will coordinate daily with facility management staff and trades on site, and your records are used by people across the operation.
Assets
- Bilingual English/French (site documentation is produced in both official languages)
- Terrestrial laser scanning, point cloud registration and scan-to-BIM workflows
- Total station, robotic total station and GNSS
- Leica Infinity, Trimble Business Center or equivalent
- Experience on government, institutional or industrial sites
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Scheduled on-site hours at the facility each week, expected to increase over time, with additional project work assigned outside those hours
- No personal electronic devices, including phones, are permitted on site. Parking is available just off site.
- You will often work without a crew around you, so you need to organize your own work, make sound calls in the field and keep records current without follow-up. Defined turnaround times and quality checks apply to all deliverables, so accuracy comes first
