Original job description
At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to join our Central Technology Build Engineering team as we develop and curate an Unreal Engine ecosystem to share across our internal game studios. You will join a specialized team responsible for unblocking developers, ensuring build stability, and optimizing iteration workflows across multiple concurrent titles. This is a hands-on IC role where engineering excellence meets operational reliability. You’ll collaborate closely with game development teams to ensure a seamless experience for all Unreal-powered studios under our banner. In this role, you will design, build, and run scalable AWS architectures that serve as the backbone for deploying our Unreal Engine build systems and tools.
What You'll Do:
-
Work with the team to design a ready-made cloud-first suite of Unreal Engine build systems and tooling
-
Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code to ensure consistency and repeatability
-
Support ongoing AWS operations for build infrastructure
-
Support and administer studio-specific Perforce environments
-
Work with studio teams to optimize our systems for cost, scale, and latency
-
Define standards and best practices for performance, observability, and maintainability of build pipelines
-
Act as a technical partner and mentor to studio engineers, helping teams adopt and extend shared systems effectively
-
Innovate with emerging build technologies, cloud and AI
What You'll Bring:
-
Fundamental understanding of cloud solution design patterns (microservices, messaging, distributed caching, containers, networking, IAM, etc.) and creating solutions in AWS
-
Exceptional experience with infrastructure as code development (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform) and gitops practices
-
Administration experience or expert knowledge with Perforce
-
3+ years of software development experience including compiled programs (such as C#, Golang, or TypeScript) and scripting (such as Bash, Python, JavaScript)
-
Experience with Unreal or other game engines desirable
-
Strong ability to build trust and clarity in communication with technical and non-technical audiences
-
Exposure to Agile/SCRUM methodologies
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
