Original job description

About the Role

Havas CX is seeking a Director of Content Strategy to lead content strategy in Canada.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for a content systems expert. You'll define how content is structured, modeled, governed and operationalized so that experiences can deliver personalized, dynamic and reusable content at enterprise scale. That includes content that travels across channels, shows up in search and AI-driven experiences, and adapts to changing customer journeys.

You'll lead content strategy on complex digital transformation programs. You'll also partner with the Head of Content Strategy, North America to grow the practice in Canada and integrate content strategy across strategy, experience design, SEO/AEO, data and technology. This role has a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Head of Content Strategy, North America.

This is not a copywriting role.

What You'll Do

Practice Development

Partner with the Head of Content Strategy, North America to grow the content strategy practice in Canada
Apply and help evolve North America content strategy methods, standards and deliverables
Partner with project leadership to scope, estimate and sequence content strategy within SOWs and project plans
Partner with project management to staff, plan and manage content strategy work
Educate and enable experience design, experience strategy and SEO/AEO teams on how and when to integrate content strategy
Review scopes for content strategy requirements before they go to clients
Mentor content strategists as the team grows

Content Systems & Architecture

Lead the definition of enterprise content models, content types, attributes and relationships
Design taxonomy, metadata and tagging frameworks that support classification, assembly and reuse
Define modular, structured content approaches for headless and hybrid CMS environments (AEM and similar)
Define content requirements for personalization, dynamic content and next best action experiences
Partner with design system teams on content patterns, component-level content requirements and authoring guidelines
Partner with technology teams to translate content models into platform requirements

Content Strategy & Experience

Lead content strategy aligned to user needs, business goals and customer journeys
Develop messaging frameworks, content priorities and content-to-journey mapping
Partner with experience design on information architecture, navigation and page structure
Lead content audits, inventories, rationalization and gap analyses
Define content migration approaches and mapping

Search, AEO & AI Discoverability

Partner with SEO/AEO specialists to ensure content is structured for findability, answer extractability and AI visibility
Translate SEO/AEO requirements into content models, metadata and structured content approaches

Content Operations & Governance

Define future-state content operating models, including roles, decision rights, workflow and lifecycle
Design governance models that sustain modular and reusable content at scale, including regulated content review
Identify opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency and scale across content operations

Client Leadership

Serve as the senior content strategy lead on client engagements
Facilitate workshops and present recommendations to senior client stakeholders
Communicate the role and value of content systems clearly to cross-functional teams and clients

What You Bring

10–15+ years in content strategy, content design or digital experience strategy, including senior leadership of content strategy workstreams
Demonstrated expertise in content modeling, structured content and taxonomy for enterprise digital ecosystems
Hands-on experience with headless or hybrid CMS platforms (AEM strongly preferred), including content fragments, reusable components and authoring models
Experience defining content requirements for personalization, dynamic content or next best action
Working knowledge of SEO, AEO and GEO, and how content structure supports search and AI-driven discovery
Experience designing content operations, governance and lifecycle models
Experience scoping and estimating content strategy work within agency or consulting environments
Experience leading or mentoring content strategy teams
Experience in regulated industries (e.g., financial services) a strong plus
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain content systems to non-content audiences

Leveling & Scope

Director, Content Strategy

Leads content strategy across multiple engagements in Canada
Partners with the Head of Content Strategy, North America on practice standards, methods and growth
Defines content strategy scope, sequencing and staffing with project leadership
Acts as the senior content strategy lead with clients and internal teams in Canada
Builds content strategy capability across disciplines
