Job Title: Data / Analytics Engineer
Location: Toronto, ON (four days onsite Friday WFH)
Duration: 3 months contract (potential for full-time)
Rate: CAD35-CAD40/hr
About the Role
We are seeking a Data / Analytics Engineer to join a growing analytics team supporting business operations across multiple industry sectors, including food services, healthcare, and related business lines. This role will focus on building and maintaining reliable data models, ensuring high-quality data delivery, and supporting financial and operational reporting initiatives.
The successful candidate will work closely with Data Engineering, Ingestion teams, Product Managers, QA teams, Finance stakeholders, and business users in an Agile environment. The primary initiative involves partnering with finance teams to onboard payment vendors and ensure accurate, timely, and well-structured data is available for reporting and financial close processes.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize data models to support analytics and reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain data transformation pipelines using DBT.
- Work with data housed in Snowflake to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility.
- Collaborate with ingestion teams, product managers, QA teams, and business stakeholders.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint ceremonies, and bi-weekly knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Support the delivery of financial and operational reporting data used by business operators and finance teams.
- Manage code versioning and deployment processes using GitHub.
- Troubleshoot data issues and proactively identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Engage stakeholders to gather requirements, challenge assumptions when appropriate, and ensure business needs are clearly understood.
- Contribute to data governance, documentation, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience with SQL and data modeling concepts.
- Hands-on experience with DBT (Data Build Tool).
- Experience using GitHub or similar version control systems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to ask questions, challenge requirements constructively, and drive clarity.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor or similar platforms.
- Experience supporting analytics and reporting solutions for finance, retail, food services, or operational business functions.
