Position Summary:

The General Manager will maximize market share, profitability, utilization, customer satisfaction, accuracy, and efficiency of deployment while minimizing costs. The role will also provide strategic direction and management to the Western Canada Operations as well as manage the sales of rentals, the rental process, inventory, and repair of movie production equipment to advance the goal of being a global leader and the supplier of choice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Efficiently manage the operations in Western Canada including but not limited to:

Direct reports; includes performance management, performance reviews, discipline, etc.
All lighting, cable, grip, generator, fleet vehicle, and specialty equipment assets.
Maintaining sales and pricing at the highest levels throughout the year while balancing available inventory.
Providing ongoing mentoring and training to all staff to achieve company goals (ESG); and identifying and removing barriers for staff to take action.
The competitiveness of rental pricing, accuracy and comprehensiveness of documentation and the appropriate maintenance of inventory software.
Confirm teams adherence to Health and Safety policy and regulations, including but not limited to, WHMIS, safe operation and certification of equipment, electrical safety, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), and PPE. Operating efficiently and cost-effectively while continuously reviewing processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Maintaining manpower at effective levels according to customer demand and seasonality of the business.
The quality of product supplied ensures that it is managed in a way to enable the Company to become the preferred rental house of choice.
The development and implementation of appropriate contractual terms for dealing with customers.
Approval of the terms and conditions of major customer contracts.
Assessing the capacity of the Company to meet customers’ expectations on acceptable terms and conditions.
The involvement in, and the resolution of disputes as required.
Involved in the hiring process to fulfill approved vacancies within operations in cooperation with Human Resources.
Responsible for attendance management of incumbents and operational staff, including time off, scheduling, and appropriate planning for time away in compliance with company policies and procedures.
Performance management, including ensuring interpersonal conflict and performance concerns, are addressed in a timely manner. Work with Human Resources to apply progressive discipline when warranted.
The fair, equitable and respectful treatment of employees.
Cascade relevant information and communication of all company policies, internal memos, and updates.
The identification of issues, making recommendations (business cases, financials) and sponsoring same for Corporate Management consideration.
The recommendation of strategic direction and budget to Senior Management and Corporate Management Groups.
The building of relationships within the departments of Western Canada operations and between other operational locations.
Ensuring the existence of a regional Occupation Health & Safety Committee and their ability to effectively operate.

Qualifications:

Completion of post-secondary education in a related field
15 years’ experience which includes 10 years of which within various capacities of location set and rental hour and 5 years of people management
Ability to provide strategy to enable operations to have a competitive advantage
Understanding of equipment, its use and role within a production and rental house operations
Experience effectively leading and developing teams
Ability to prioritize and multi-task
Ability to manage high volume workload
Good understanding of employment legislation, Health, and Safety, including WHMIS and TDG.
Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and Asana, other project management, or inventory software

Contacts:

Contacts are internal to the organization at the Specialist, Manager and President level
Frequent external contact with production personnel and suppliers
External contacts are at all levels, primarily at the senior levels, with customers, other rental houses and suppliers

Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
High level of autonomy.
Some travel may be required, including on-set, representative at industry events.
Physical demands include:
Physical effort may be required, average 50+ lbs.
Bending, reaching, lifting
Standing walking
Sitting at desk when working with office equipment
Exposure to warehouse, being present for operational staff

Mental demands include:

Ability to deal with complex customers
Ability to deal with industry expectations, time sensitives, and pressures
At times, work hours can be longer than normal
