Original job description

IT Support / Systems Administrator

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 per year

Location: Ottawa (Onsite)

Your New Company

Our client is a well-established national organization seeking an IT Support / Systems Administrator to join its technology team in Ottawa.

This is a hands-on role combining front-line and escalated IT support with Microsoft systems administration. The successful candidate will spend approximately 50% of their time supporting users and 50% administering and improving Microsoft technologies, with a particular focus on Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Intune.

Your New Role

As an IT Support / Systems Administrator, you will provide day-to-day technical support while also taking ownership of key components of the organization's Microsoft environment.

On the IT support side, you will troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, connectivity, access, endpoint, and application issues. You will support users of varying technical abilities and act as an escalation point for more complex incidents.

On the systems administration side, you will work hands-on with Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft Intune, administering identity, access, endpoints, policies, applications, and security configurations.

Key responsibilities will include:

Providing front-line and escalated technical support for hardware, software, applications, networking, access, and endpoint issues.
Administering Microsoft Entra ID, including user identities, groups, roles, MFA, Conditional Access, authentication, and access policies.
Administering Microsoft Intune, including device enrolment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, application deployment, and endpoint management.
Supporting Windows devices and the broader Microsoft 365 environment.
Troubleshooting complex identity, authentication, application, and endpoint issues.
Supporting device provisioning, deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management.
Managing security permissions and access rights across Microsoft environments.
Monitoring systems and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, security, and the end-user experience.
Working collaboratively with infrastructure, security, application, and other IT teams.
Liaising with external vendors when required to resolve technical issues.
Maintaining technical documentation, procedures, asset information, and knowledge articles.
Participating in technology projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensuring security best practices are followed across supported platforms.

What You'll Need to Succeed

The ideal candidate is an experienced IT support professional who has progressed beyond traditional Help Desk responsibilities and developed hands-on Microsoft systems administration experience.

You will bring:

5+ years of IT support, systems administration, or related IT operations experience.
Strong hands-on experience providing Level 1 / Level 2 technical support in a professional environment.
Hands-on Microsoft Entra ID administration experience, beyond basic account creation and password resets.
Hands-on Microsoft Intune administration experience, including device management, policies, compliance, and application deployment.
Experience supporting and administering Windows endpoints.
Experience with MFA, Conditional Access, SSO, identity and access management, and security permissions.
Experience troubleshooting Microsoft 365, authentication, endpoint, hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
Experience working with users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and customer service skills.

Nice to Have

Microsoft 365 administration experience.
Windows Autopilot experience.
Microsoft Defender experience.
Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, or OneDrive administration experience.
PowerShell scripting or automation experience.
ITIL knowledge and experience with tools such as ServiceNow or Freshservice.
Microsoft certifications such as MD-102, MS-102, SC-300, or AZ-104.
French-language skills are considered an asset.

What You'll Get in Return

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT support professional who wants to maintain a hands-on user support component while continuing to grow their Microsoft systems administration expertise.

You'll join an established organization in a permanent role with the opportunity to work directly with Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, identity, and security technologies, while contributing to ongoing IT projects and improvements.

What You Need to Do Now

If you have a strong IT support background combined with genuine hands-on Entra ID and Intune administration experience, we'd like to hear from you.
