Role: Java Architect - Azure

Location: Toronto, ON(Hybrid)

Type: Contract

Experience: 10+ Years

Rate: CAD85/hr - CAD95/hr

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Java Architect with strong expertise in designing and delivering scalable, cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Java-based microservices, cloud architecture, API development, infrastructure automation, and modern data platforms. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, defining technical solutions, and driving best practices across application and cloud architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Design and architect enterprise-grade applications using Java and cloud-native technologies.
Lead the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance APIs and microservices.
Define and implement cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure.
Architect and manage containerized workloads using Kubernetes platforms.
Build and optimize event-driven and messaging-based integrations.
Establish infrastructure-as-code practices and deployment automation.
Collaborate with development, DevOps, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Provide technical leadership, code reviews, architecture guidance, and mentorship to engineering teams.
Ensure adherence to security, governance, performance, and operational best practices.

Required Skills

Strong experience in Java application development and architecture.
Expertise in API design and integration.
Hands-on experience with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS).
Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
Strong knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Experience with Kafka/MQ or other messaging and event-streaming platforms.
Solid understanding of cloud architecture, microservices, and distributed systems.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Azure Databricks.
Strong knowledge of Spring / Spring Boot.
Containerization experience using Docker.
Experience leading or mentoring small development teams.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud security frameworks.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale solutions.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-Have Experience

Data engineering and analytics platforms.
Multi-cloud exposure.
Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
