Job Title: Java Developer

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

Duration: Contract

Rate: CAD$50-55/hr INC

Job Description/ Responsibilities

1. Backend Development & Coding

Develop, enhance, and maintain Java-based microservices and APIs.

Write clean, efficient, and reusable code following best practices and design patterns.

Build and optimise RESTful APIs aligned with OpenAPI specifications.

Refactor legacy components for improved performance and maintainability.

2. System Design & Architecture

Design scalable, fault-tolerant backend systems to support large-scale user traffic.

Participate in architecture discussions and propose backend solutions aligned with enterprise standards.

Ensure code adheres to modular, reusable, and cloud-native design principles.

3. Cloud & Containerisation

Develop and deploy services on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or OpenShift.

Work with Docker and Kubernetes for containerisation and orchestration.

Ensure high availability, scalability, and resiliency of backend systems.

4. CI/CD & DevOps Contribution

Integrate backend services into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

Automate build, testing, and deployment processes.

Continuously improve deployment efficiency and reliability through automation.

5. Testing & Quality Assurance

Write and maintain unit, integration, and functional tests.

Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and standards.

Ensure applications meet performance, security, and compliance requirements.

6. AI-Assisted Development & Productivity

Leverage AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar to accelerate development and improve code quality.

Use automation tools to enhance development velocity and reduce manual effort.

Troubleshoot production issues and ensure system stability.

Participate in on-call rotation for critical application support.

Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews).
